Cephalosporin is a common medicine, and there are many types of cephalosporins. Cefuroxime is one of them. Cefuroxime is a third-generation cephalosporin drug. It can effectively treat inflammation and infection in the body. It can also be used after human surgery to prevent wound infection and has an antibacterial effect on wounds. What generation of cephalosporin is cefuroxime? Cefuroxime belongs to the third-generation cephalosporin and can be used if there is an indication for antibiotic use and clear evidence of inflammation. Cephalosporins are divided into 4 generations First Generation: Cefalotin sodium, cephalexin, cefadroxil, cefazolin, cefradine, cefathiamidine, cefaclor, cephalothin, cefuroxime, cefuroxime, cefuroxime, ceftriaxone, cefapirin, and cefotaxime. Second Generation: Cefuroxime sodium, cefuroxime axetil, cefmandole, cefaclor, cefotiam, cefmetazole, cefoxitin, cefprozil, cefonicid, and cefuroxime. Third Generation: Cefotaxime sodium, cefoperazone, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, ceftizoxime, cefmenoxime, cefpiramide, cefotetan, cefuroxime, cefpodoxime proxetil, cefmetazim, ceftriaxone, cefdinir, cefdirox, cefoperazone, cefuroxime, cefuroxime, and cefuroxime. Fourth Generation: Cefepime, cefpirome, cefuroxime. Uses/Cefmenoxime This product is a semi-synthetic third-generation cephalosporin. The antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of other third-generation cephalosporins. It is highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria and is particularly stable to β-lactamases produced by various negative bacteria, and has a bactericidal effect. It is effective against Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Serratia, H. influenzae, Enterobacter and Citrobacter. Its antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa is stronger than that of cefoperazone and ceftizoxime, but its antibacterial efficacy against Streptococcus is not as good as that of the first and second generations. Clinically, it is mainly used for sepsis caused by various sensitive bacteria, burn infection, upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, cholecystitis, cholangitis, peritonitis, pyelonephritis, urinary tract infection, cystitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis and postoperative infection. Its main side effect is allergic rash, and no specific adverse reactions occur. The main gastrointestinal reactions are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. A few patients had elevated serum alanine aminotransferase and blood urea nitrogen. |
