Varenicline tartrate tablets warnings

Serious neuropsychiatric symptoms, including but not limited to depression, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and completed suicide, have been reported in patients taking varenicline. Some reports may be indistinguishable from nicotine withdrawal symptoms in patients who have stopped smoking. Depressed mood may be a symptom of nicotine withdrawal and has been reported in some smokers undergoing non-pharmacological cessation, and suicidal thoughts have occasionally been reported. However, some of these symptoms have been reported in patients taking varenicline who continue to smoke.

All patients treated with this product should be observed for neuropsychiatric symptoms, including behavioral changes, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, and suicide-related events, including suicidal ideation, behavior, and attempts. In postmarketing experience, these symptoms, along with exacerbation of pre-existing psychiatric illness and suicidality, have been reported in patients using varenicline for smoking cessation. Most of these reported symptoms occurred during treatment with varenicline, but some also occurred after cessation of treatment.

Patients and caregivers are advised to stop taking this product immediately and contact medical staff if they observe agitation, hostility, depression, atypical changes in behavior or thinking, or if they develop suicidal thoughts or behaviors. In most postmarketing reports, symptoms resolved after patients stopped taking the drug; however, in some cases, these symptoms persisted. Therefore, patients should be monitored continuously and provided with supportive care until symptoms resolve completely.

Adverse Reactions

Whether or not you receive smoking cessation treatment, smoking cessation itself is accompanied by a variety of symptoms. For example, there have been reports of patients who tried to quit smoking experiencing restlessness, depression, insomnia, irritability, frustration, anger, anxiety, inability to concentrate, restlessness, decreased heart rate, increased appetite, or weight gain. The design and results analysis of the clinical studies of this product did not distinguish between the adverse events that occurred and those related to drug or nicotine withdrawal.
