Why do my eyes hurt when I put in eye drops?

With the popularity of mobile phones in today's life, many people love to play with mobile phones more and more. The attraction of mobile phones to people is far above everything else. There are always some people who often play with mobile phones late at night and stay up late. This will not only make the mind unable to get rest, but also cause overstrain and overuse of the eyes. When the eyes feel uncomfortable, they will want to buy some eye drops. So why do eye drops hurt the eyes?

Eye drops are one of the most commonly used drug dosage forms for ophthalmic diseases. They have a direct and quick therapeutic effect on many eye diseases. However, many people are accustomed to using eye drops frequently even if they do not have any eye diseases, or they use eye drops when they have eye discomfort without proper diagnosis. Experts warn that this is inappropriate and that the misuse of eye drops has many disadvantages.

Most eye drops contain a preservative ingredient in addition to their therapeutic ingredients. If eye drops are used frequently, the preservatives can damage the ocular surface structure and cause irritation symptoms. Antibiotic eye drops are the most widely used, including for bacterial infections, viral infections, fungal infections, chlamydia infections, etc. This type of eye drops should be used according to the course of treatment under the guidance of a doctor. Blindly using antibiotic eye drops for a long time will cause the production of drug-resistant strains.

The therapeutic effects of eye drops vary depending on their ingredients. If you frequently use a certain type of eye drop without proper diagnosis, it can cause adverse consequences, some of which are very serious. For example, some people have dry and uncomfortable eyes. When they use glucocorticoid eye drops, they feel comfortable immediately, so they use these eye drops frequently. Because these drugs can suppress the immune function, they may cause serious infection or even corneal perforation. These drugs may also cause serious consequences such as steroid-induced glaucoma. Some eye drops contain adrenaline which constricts blood vessels. When the eyes are congested, the congestion will disappear immediately after using these drops. This is because adrenaline constricts the blood vessels but does not eliminate the cause of the congestion. When the effect of the drug wears off, the congestion remains. Some people then use it frequently. This powerful vasoconstrictor drug affects eye metabolism and is likely to aggravate eye disease.

Experts remind: Any medication should be used in a targeted manner and should be taken under the guidance of a doctor and according to the course of treatment. What is more important is to develop good hygiene habits, live a regular life, use your eyes scientifically, strengthen your physical fitness, and avoid the occurrence of eye diseases.
