What to do if you have a sore throat during pregnancy

Many pregnant women often experience sore throat and throat inflammation during pregnancy. This symptom is very common, mainly due to the low physical fitness during pregnancy, which makes it easy to be infected by bacteria. However, do not take medicine for sore throat. In order to avoid bacterial infection, you can use some small folk remedies to relieve it. They are simple, effective and harmless.

Symptoms: Acute and chronic pharyngitis, acute and chronic tonsillitis

Old recipe:

Dip a cotton swab in highly concentrated salt water, insert it into the throat and gently tap it to allow the salt water to soak the inflamed area, or rinse your mouth with concentrated salt water.

Wash and slice fresh potatoes, apply them to the inflamed throat area, and then fix them with tape. Wait until the potato slices are dry before replacing them with fresh ones.

Generally, pregnant women suffering from acute pharyngitis or acute tonsillitis worry that taking medicine will affect the health of the fetus. In this case, if the pregnant woman's tonsils are not purulent, there is no need to consider antibiotics. You can try the following folk remedy. The specific method is: first prepare some concentrated salt water and a few cotton swabs, then tilt your head back and open your mouth, ask someone else or yourself to use a cotton swab dipped in concentrated salt water, put it into the throat and gently tap a few times; then close your mouth and let the salt water slowly soak down. The throat will feel salty, which will stimulate the production of saliva, and then slowly swallow it.

If you find this method troublesome, you can also use concentrated salt water to gargle. First, use hot water to make a cup of concentrated salt water. Then when the water temperature drops to warm water, start gargling your mouth and throat for about 20 seconds, then spit it out. Repeat gargling every 10 minutes for 10 times in a row.

There are usually a lot of bacteria and viruses in our pharynx and tonsils, but under normal circumstances, these pathogens cannot flourish because the body has sufficient positive energy. However, when the body's immunity decreases, these pathogens will grow and cause pharyngitis and tonsillitis. High concentration of saline can kill these pathogens, and also has an inhibitory effect on local inflammation, edema and exudation in the throat. Therefore, this method is very suitable for pregnant women who have many contraindications to medication.

The method of gargling with concentrated salt water is not only useful for acute throat diseases, but also effective for chronic pharyngitis and chronic tonsillitis.

Another folk remedy worth recommending for treating throat diseases is to apply fresh potato slices to the throat. Go to the market and buy fresh potatoes, wash and slice them, then stick them on the throat and secure them with tape. If the potato chips fall off, shift, or dry out, they should be replaced with fresh ones in time. Potatoes contain solanine, a choline derivative, which can promote local blood circulation. The blood circulation in the throat is enhanced, which means that more immune cells can rush to the battlefield through the blood circulation and kill the virus. Therefore, this method of applying potato slices does not directly kill bacteria and viruses, but achieves the treatment goal by strengthening the body's positive energy.
