What should I do if I have lumps and pain in my breasts during lactation?

For the sake of their babies, many young mothers give up the opportunity to protect their body shape and insist on breastfeeding. Breast milk is the best food for babies, but during the lactation period, mothers will encounter various problems. For example, lumps appear in the breasts during lactation. Generally, novice pregnant mothers do not know what to do. Due to lack of experience, they are often caught off guard by breast pain and lumps during lactation. So, what should I do if there are lumps and pain in the breasts during lactation?

Why do breasts have lumps and pain during lactation? In fact, if lumps suddenly appear in the breasts during breastfeeding and are accompanied by pain, this is mostly due to external force causing blockage of the milk ducts, such as the baby's hands and feet kicking or pressing on the breasts while sleeping, causing blockage of the milk ducts. On the one hand, milk duct blockage manifests as partial pain or lumps in the breasts. It is recommended to use hot water for hot compresses and local massage. After breastfeeding your baby, you can use a breast pump to help express milk and try to express as much milk as possible. If the lump does not go away, or if fever or unbearable pain occurs, you need to go to the hospital and receive timely treatment under the guidance of a doctor to avoid mastitis. In addition, you should make sure your child drinks one breast empty before drinking the other, this can keep the gland duct normal. At the same time, use a hot towel for hot compresses, and the condition will gradually get better.

Breast lumps can be eliminated by massage.

1. The mother lies flat on the bed, takes off her top, and prepares two clean towels to place around her chest. 2. First, use the hand-expression technique to massage and squeeze the areola, with the goal of draining the milk from the front of the breast first. Milk is usually blocked at the back of the breast. If the milk in the front is not squeezed out, massaging the lump in the back will be useless. So you need to soften the nipple and areola first, squeeze out the milk, and then the posterior milk will be released. The expressed milk can be used as a lubricant on your hands, and the excess milk can be absorbed with a towel.

3. After the milk in the front and middle of the breast is unblocked, use the thumbs of both hands to press diagonally on the base of the breast, rub it vigorously and push towards the nipple. Press on the areola and the milk will spray out. Repeat this until the milk at the base of the breast is drained. In order to protect the skin, you should use expressed milk as lubricant. Change the position of the breasts in this way and push them all around, and the milk will not accumulate. 4. The breasts will become soft after being unblocked. At this time, you can use a hot towel to apply heat to the breasts to speed up blood circulation. Be careful to avoid the nipples when applying hot compress. After hot compress, you can push it again to discharge the remaining milk more cleanly. 5. Drink some hot water after the blockage is completed. You can also go to a Chinese medicine shop to buy Rhizoma Lulutong or Rhizoma Tongcao and boil them in water to drink. Tip: If your milk is already engorged, do not apply hot compresses. You can apply ice to relieve pain and swelling. If you start to have a fever, you may have mastitis. It is better to go to the hospital as soon as possible. If the blockage is severe, you should go to the hospital. Mastitis will not occur immediately in the early stages of breast blockage. At this time, you can go to the hospital for a massage to clear the blockage. You don't necessarily need an injection.
