Swelling of fingers when making a fist

Swelling of fingers when making a fist

There is a saying that goes "a clever mind brings a clever hand", and the hands are connected to the brain and heart, so exercising the fingers is also good for the brain and heart. Why do some people feel swelling in their fingers when they clench their fists? From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, fingers need to be exercised regularly. If you feel weak or swollen fingers, it is mostly related to the liver. It may be accompanied by other symptoms, such as back pain, leg pain, etc. You should be careful about these symptoms.

Liver Qi deficiency causes weakness in hands

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "the liver governs the tendons." People with strong liver qi have flexible and strong limbs. Most newborn babies clench their fists, which is a sign of their strong liver qi. Therefore, if you find that your grip strength has decreased, that is, when your hands feel weak, you should consider that it is a manifestation of weak liver qi. In addition, lower back pain, leg cramps, and dry nails may also be caused by weak liver qi in traditional Chinese medicine.

Spring is supposed to be the time when liver qi is strong. Therefore, if your hands are weak in spring, it means that the liver qi deficiency has reached a serious level!

In addition, there is another phenomenon that indicates that there is a problem with your liver qi:

If you often stay up late and always feel depressed, it means that your liver qi is not in harmony. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that "the liver stores blood" and "when a person lies down, the blood returns to the liver." Therefore, staying up late all the time will deprive the liver of blood nourishment, causing liver depression and qi stagnation, which will make you unhappy.

Arguably, this phenomenon is the most easily overlooked manifestation of liver qi deficiency and stagnation. So, what should we do?

1. Moxibustion on "Taichong Point"

If middle-aged or elderly friends find that their limbs are weak and they often have cramps, they may try using moxibustion on the "Taichong Point" to replenish liver qi. "Taichong Point" is the original point of the Liver Meridian and is also the warehouse for storing the vital energy of the Liver Meridian. Moxibustion for 20 minutes every day can nourish and protect the liver. Consciously repeating the gripping motion with force every day can also help nourish the liver.

2. Get more sleep

The liver needs nourishment from blood. The best way for the liver to get blood is to sleep. Therefore, we go to bed at 10:30 at night and lie on our right side, which can nourish the liver blood well. Many people who are in a bad mood feel much better after a good night’s sleep because their liver blood is nourished.

3. Drink Kuding Tea

For people who have excessive liver fire, a bad temper, and get easily irritated, you can drink more Kuding tea to dispel liver fire. We can also buy selfheal, mulberry leaves and chrysanthemum at the pharmacy. First, soak 12 grams of selfheal and 10 grams of mulberry leaves in water for half an hour, then boil for half an hour, and finally add 10 grams of chrysanthemum and boil for a few minutes. Drink it as tea while it is hot. It also has the effect of removing heat.

4. Sit quietly for 10 minutes after a meal.

It is best for us to sit quietly for 10 to 30 minutes after a meal. This is because if you walk or exercise immediately after a meal, the blood flowing into the liver will be reduced. In addition, a large amount of blood accumulates in the digestive system after a meal, which can easily cause the liver to be in a state of insufficient blood supply, which is not good for liver health.
