Newborn baby does not open his eyes

Newborn baby does not open his eyes

When a baby is born, the way their eyes open varies depending on their physical constitution. Some babies can open their eyes when they are born. But some children need two or three days, or even a week to fully open their eyes. For some children who open their eyes late, the waiting process must be quite painful for their parents. In fact, there is no need to worry too much about this phenomenon. As long as the child is in good health, it is only a matter of time before he opens his eyes.

1. Do babies open their eyes as soon as they are born?

Some children can open their eyes when they are born, but their eyes have weak light sensitivity and can only see objects in a small range and short distance. Because each baby's eye development is different and varies from person to person, the time it takes for a newborn to open his eyes can vary greatly.

2. When do babies usually open their eyes?

Most babies are born with their eyes closed. Generally, they will open their eyes after 2-7 days. Some babies will open their eyes right after birth, some will open their eyes around two or three days after birth, and some may not open their eyes until a week later. Every child has different circumstances, so the time when each child opens his eyes is also different. Newborn babies are a little afraid of light, so it is best to dim the light in the room. Draw the curtains on the windows to prevent the light from reflecting into the baby's eyes. In dim light, the baby will generally open his eyes slowly.

3. What’s the reason why you’re not opening your eyes?

1. Since babies are still in the neonatal period, their functions in all aspects are not yet perfect. It is a normal physiological phenomenon that babies cannot open their eyes, which is related to imperfect brain development. As the baby grows and develops, the organs will gradually develop and everything will recover naturally. There is no need to be overly nervous.

2. When the baby is in the mother's belly, the environment is very dark. When the baby just comes into this world, it cannot adapt to the strong external light. The pupils of the eyes are more sensitive to external light stimulation, and the ability to adapt to light is poor. Generally, the baby does not like to open his eyes or only opens them a little. It is recommended that you do not expose your baby to strong light.

3. Some newborns open their eyes early, while others open their eyes late. It depends on the size of their eyes and their weight. Generally, children with big eyes and who are not fat open their eyes early. Some children whose parents have small eyes and who are a little fat may not be able to open their eyes for a week, but they will get better slowly.

4. Parents should check whether the child cannot open his eyes due to eye mucus stuck in his eyes. It is recommended that you use a soft towel dipped in warm water or a cotton swab dipped in warm water to gently remove the eye mucus from the corners of his eyes. Be sure to be gentle.

5. There are individual differences in the time it takes for newborns to open their eyes, which is related to their physical constitution, nutritional status, genetic factors and the external environment. Every newborn has a different physique. Some babies can open their eyes soon after birth, while others may need a day or two. However, if your child has not opened his eyes after one month, you should take him to a regular hospital for a systematic examination as soon as possible.
