The leaves are ovate-oblong to lanceolate, dark green on the surface, turning black after drying, the cymes are spreading, the bracts are linear or lanceolate; the calyx is cup-shaped, the corolla is purple or pink, the anthers are elliptical and small, the fruit is nearly spherical and red, it blooms from June to August, and bears fruit from August to December.

Distributed in Guangdong and Guangxi, China. It grows in forests or thickets on hillsides, valleys, and stream sides from plains to 1,200 meters above sea level. It is also distributed in India, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore. The type specimen was collected from Guangdong.
