When is the whooping cough vaccine given?

We all know that newborn babies have very poor resistance, so newborn babies will be vaccinated to strengthen their resistance and prevent various diseases. However, although vaccines are good, they cannot be administered indiscriminately. You also need to pay attention to some rules. Different vaccines have different vaccination times, contraindications, effects, etc. These must be strictly followed. So do you want to know when to get the whooping cough vaccine? Let’s take over together.

The pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus mixed vaccine is abbreviated as DTP vaccine. It is made of pertussis vaccine, refined diphtheria and tetanus toxoids in appropriate proportions and is used to prevent pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus.

Whooping cough vaccination schedule:

Generally, babies who are 3 months old can be vaccinated against whooping cough. Pertussis vaccine is suitable for adsorbed DTP and adsorbed acellular DTP for full immunization of children aged 3 months to 6 years old. Adsorbed Baibai is used as a booster for children under 6 years old who have completed a full course of immunization.

Whooping cough vaccine categories:

1. Adsorbed pertussis vaccine, diphtheria and tetanus toxoids mixed preparation (adsorbed diphtheria, diphtheria and tetanus toxoids): It is made by adsorbing pertussis vaccine concentrate and refined diphtheria and tetanus toxoids with aluminum hydroxide. Each milliliter contains 8 potency units (8EU, equivalent to approximately 4.5 billion to 9 billion bacteria) of pertussis bacteria, 20 flocculent units (LF) of refined diphtheria toxoid, and 5LF of refined tetanus toxoid.

2. Adsorbed acellular pertussis vaccine, diphtheria and tetanus toxoids mixed preparation (adsorbed acellular diphtheria and tetanus): It is made by adsorbing acellular pertussis vaccine concentrate, refined diphtheria and tetanus toxoids with aluminum hydroxide. Each milliliter contains 15-18ugPN of acellular pertussis antigen, 25-30LF of refined diphtheria toxoid, and 7-14LF of refined tetanus toxoid.

3. Adsorbed pertussis vaccine and diphtheria toxin mixed preparation (adsorbed pertussis and diphtheria toxin): It is made by adsorbing pertussis vaccine concentrate and refined diphtheria toxin with aluminum hydroxide. Each milliliter of vaccine contains 8EV of pertussis bacteria and 20LF of refined diphtheria toxoid.

Vaccination method:

Administer an intramuscular injection into the upper outer quarter of the baby's buttocks or into the deltoid muscle of the upper arm.

Post-vaccination reaction:

After the second injection of the DTP vaccine, certain reactions often occur due to the increase in the injection dose. For example, the baby will cry and be restless, have difficulty falling asleep, and sometimes have a fever (generally not exceeding 38.5C) on the night after the vaccination. The injection site will become red, swollen and painful, and may also make the baby irritable. This reaction usually lasts for 1 to 2 days before recovering on its own without requiring treatment.

Things to note when getting the whooping cough vaccine:

1. Because it is an adsorption preparation, precipitation will occur after being left for a while. It must be shaken thoroughly before use.

2. The product cannot be frozen. If it clots, it cannot be used.

3. Use intramuscular injection. There may be local nodules, which can be gradually absorbed. When injecting the second injection, the other side should be changed.

4. 1:1000 epinephrine should be available for emergency use in case of shock.

5. If patients develop abnormal conditions such as high fever or convulsions after the first injection, the second injection is not required.

Care:

The diet of whooping cough patients should adhere to the principle of light and easy to digest. They can mainly eat liquid or semi-liquid foods such as milk, rice porridge, noodle soup, and vegetable puree, and eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, such as spinach, radish, loofah, winter melon, pears, apples, etc. You can also add appropriate foods that clear the lungs and moisten the intestines to keep your bowels open, such as bananas. Avoid eating spicy, fatty, overly salty, overly sweet, hot, or greasy food to avoid causing heat and phlegm. Acidic foods should also be eaten as little as possible or not at all.
