Can you bear the terrible consequences of wearing high heels?

High heels are indispensable for modern women. Whether they are office white-collar workers or campus students, they all have a special liking for high heels. However, Chinese medicine reminds that wearing high heels frequently has disadvantages. Let us learn about it together.

1. Harm to ankle and knee joints

When walking in high heels, the range of motion of the knee and ankle joints is affected and the force is uneven, so ankle sprains are more likely to occur than wearing flat shoes; the load pressure on the knee joint is significantly increased, so degenerative osteoarthritis comes earlier.

2. Hallux valgus

Many high-heeled shoes pursue fashion and have very pointed toes, which will squeeze the big toe and cause hallux valgus. The hallux valgus will also cause a piercing pain when it becomes inflamed because it is constantly rubbed and pressed by shoes.

3. Harm to the lumbar spine

The human spine has four physiological curves: cervical curve, thoracic curve, lumbar curve and sacral curve. The normal physiological curvature is maintained by multiple structures such as vertebral bodies, intervertebral discs, small joints, ligaments and muscles to play a role in balance, stability and cushioning. In fact, wearing high heels can cause more serious damage to the lumbar spine, but because this damage occurs and develops slowly, it is easy to be ignored.

4. Flat feet

Wearing high heels for a long time can cause foot muscle weakness, change the shape of the feet, and form flat feet. Although flat feet are not a serious disease, people with flat feet will find it very difficult to walk a short distance and will have inconvenience in their movements.

5. Harm to the feet

When you stand and walk in high heels, the weight is concentrated on the 1st to 3rd metatarsal heads of the forefoot. At the same time, these toes are squeezed by the tip of the shoe, so corns will appear and neuromas will form between the metatarsal bones, resulting in stubborn and recurring pain symptoms. If you wear high heels for a long time, it will cause weakness of the foot muscles and lead to a series of problems such as flat feet.

6. Sprained ankle

Spraining your ankle is almost an inevitable part of wearing high heels, and many people sprain their ankle if they are not careful. When normal people walk and exercise, their ankles tend to generate inward turning force, which is why the outside of the shoe always wears out first. This shows that people constantly adjust this turning force during movement to maintain balance.
