First aid measures for brain hernia, saving lives cannot wait

The disease of brain hernia can be divided into many types. Some people will experience increased intracranial pressure, while others will experience coma or respiratory arrest. We need to adopt different first aid methods according to different symptoms.

1. Patients with increased intracranial pressure

Prepare rescue items and observe changes in consciousness, pupils, blood pressure, respiration, pulse, etc. at any time to detect brain hernia in time and provide early treatment. Once brain herniation occurs, notify the doctor immediately, establish intravenous access, and quickly drip dehydration drugs intravenously, such as 20% mannitol 250-500 ml, and administer hormones.

2. Comatose Patients

Keep the airway open and suction sputum promptly. For those who have difficulty expectorating, tracheotomy can be performed to prevent carbon dioxide accumulation and aggravate increased intracranial pressure. Observe the electrolyte balance and strictly record the amount of fluid intake.

3. Patients with respiratory arrest

On the basis of rapidly reducing intracranial pressure, brain resuscitation techniques are used for rescue, and the rescue methods mainly include the following three aspects:

1. Keep the airway open, intubate the trachea, and perform tracheotomy if necessary; provide respiratory support by performing mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration or using a simple respirator or artificial respirator, and administering pressurized oxygen;

2. Circulatory support: If the heart stops beating, perform external cardiac compression immediately to maintain the heart's pumping function;

3. Drug support: Give comprehensive symptomatic treatment such as respiratory stimulants, pressors, and adrenal cortical hormones according to the doctor's orders.
