How to prepare for a colonoscopy?

In recent years, the incidence of rectal cancer in my country has been increasing. Colonoscopy is an important means of detecting rectal cancer, especially for the early detection of diseases such as intestinal polyps and adenomas. In fact, many intestinal diseases can be cured if they are discovered and treated early. Doing a colonoscopy is not as simple as seeing a doctor. Some preparation is required before the examination. So what are the preparations before a colonoscopy?

Preparation for colonoscopy

1. The examination date will be arranged by the doctor. Examination location: outpatient gastroscopy room. 2. Bowel preparation is required for this examination. 3. Three days before the examination, you should eat a semi-liquid diet with no or little residue, and do not eat vegetables or fruits. If intestinal polyps are suspected and the patient is preparing for electroresection, he or she should avoid eating milk and dairy products. 4. Take 25 ml of castor oil orally at 6:30 am on the day of examination, and do not eat breakfast. Start taking the enema solution at 9:30 am. Mix each packet with 1000ml of boiled water. Drink a total of 3000ml of enema solution within 1.5 hours. If there is still fecal residue in the stool, you need to drink another 1000ml of colon cleansing solution until the excretion is clear water. If nausea or vomiting occurs, tell your doctor or nurse and give them a cleansing enema if necessary. 5. You can eat at 2 pm, but avoid eating liquid food. At 3 pm, the nurse will take you to the outpatient gastroscopy room. 30 minutes before the examination, the nurse will inject you with 10 mg of diazepam and 0.5 mg of atropine to reduce the discomfort caused by the colonoscopy.

6. It is not advisable to bring electronic devices such as mobile phones and pagers into the gastroscopy room to avoid interfering with the normal operation of the machine. 7. Three days before the examination, stop taking iron supplements and start eating a semi-liquid or low-residue diet, such as fish, eggs, milk, soy products, porridge, noodles, bread, bananas, winter melon, potatoes, etc. 8. Take a laxative the night before the examination, and take magnesium sulfate or mannitol orally the next morning, and drink plenty of water. 9. If necessary, clean and wash the intestines 2 hours before the examination, and rest quietly half an hour before the examination. 10. Because colonoscopy is an invasive examination and may cause complications, you should also sign the form when making an appointment. The examination report will be issued immediately after the colonoscopy. Some patients need to wait a few days for a pathology report due to biopsy. 11. Patients with severe heart disease, cardiopulmonary insufficiency, severe hypertension, acute diarrhea, severe ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease of the colon, peritonitis, pregnancy, mental illness, multiple abdominal surgeries and obvious adhesions are prohibited from undergoing this examination.

Technical advantages of electronic anorectal endoscope

1. High safety: As the endoscope is soft, it will not cause damage to the intestines. 2. High diagnosis rate: The diagnosis rate is over 99.9, which can effectively avoid misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. 3. Wide field of view: It can observe the tiny capillaries in detail, and can look around the entire intestinal tract, and it can be stretched and retracted freely. 4. No pain: The endoscope is soft and light, and will not irritate the intestines and cause pain. A few patients may have abdominal distension. 5. High definition: All pathological tissues are visible under the high-resolution lens, and the tiny capillaries can be seen clearly. 6. Thorough examination: It can examine the intestines of more than 100 centimeters from the sigmoid colon, descending colon to ascending colon, and the examination is comprehensive and thorough. 7. Therapeutic effect: In addition to diagnosis, it also has therapeutic effects. Without the pain of surgery, colonoscopy can be used to remove polyps and other anorectal diseases.
