Hemolytic infertility

Hemolytic infertility

I believe that many people have never heard of hemolytic infertility in their lives. Hemolytic infertility also refers to blood type incompatibility, which can put the baby's health in danger and may even cause infertility problems. In addition, many pregnant women will be detected with this condition after they become pregnant. They need to follow the doctor's arrangements and take care of the fetus in advance.

What to do if blood type is incompatible

What to do if blood type is incompatible? Blood type incompatibility mainly refers to ABO blood type incompatibility or RH blood type incompatibility. Next, the editor will explain it to you.

1. ABO blood type incompatibility:

If the mother's blood type is O, and the father's blood type is A, B or AB, and the fetus has the same blood type as the mother, the fetus will be safe; but if the fetus has the same blood type as the father, the mother may produce antibodies against the fetal blood cells, and they will enter the fetus through the placenta, causing the fetal red blood cells to be destroyed and hemolysis to occur. It is common when the mother has type O blood and the father has type A, B or AB blood. The disease may occur in the first pregnancy and will worsen with the number of pregnancies.

However, not all babies born to mothers with type O blood will develop hemolytic disease. Some babies will develop the disease, some will not; some have mild symptoms, while others have severe symptoms.

If there is a possibility of ABO blood type incompatibility, the expectant mother should do a "prenatal blood type serological test" before pregnancy to check the antibodies in the blood. If the "activity" of the antibodies is not high, prospective parents can have peace of mind when giving birth. If the "activity" of the antibodies is very high, it can be reduced through some drug treatments. Now many hospitals have corresponding Chinese medicine treatments. The purpose of doing this is mainly to reduce the "lethality" of the mother's antibodies.

If you are already pregnant, expectant mothers should remember to regularly test the antibodies in their blood starting from around 16 weeks, usually once every four weeks, and pay close attention to whether the baby is likely to suffer from hemolysis. If there are any abnormalities, they can be treated during pregnancy, with good results.

2. RH blood type incompatibility:

If the husband is RH positive and the wife is RH negative, there is a possibility of RH blood type incompatibility between mother and baby.
