The efficacy, effects and contraindications of Rhubarb

I think everyone knows that rhubarb is a food with great medicinal value. Many traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions contain rhubarb ingredients, which shows that the pharmacological uses of rhubarb are very common. However, the consumption of rhubarb is not suitable for everyone. There are some taboos that everyone needs to know. So what are the taboos of taking rhubarb? Today, the editor will give you relevant explanations.

Rhubarb can be used as a medicine to relieve a variety of symptoms, and the therapeutic effect is ideal. Rhubarb has the effects of clearing away heat and removing fire, dispersing blood and activating blood circulation, removing stasis and swelling, and moistening the intestines and removing parasites. It is mainly used to treat headache, red eyes, sore throat, mumps, carbuncle, hemoptysis, hematemesis, epistaxis, abdominal pain due to blood stasis, bruises, constipation, eczema and scabies.

Although rhubarb has widespread medicinal value, it also has some side effects and taboos:

1. If the external symptoms have not subsided, the patient has deficiency of both Qi and blood, weak Qi, weak spleen and stomach, no real heat, food stagnation, blood stasis, and before and after pregnancy, you should be cautious when taking Coptis chinensis.

2. If people with constipation want to treat it by taking rhubarb, they should soak it in water or use boiling water to soak the juice, otherwise the medicinal effect will be weakened.

3. After taking Coptis chinensis, its melanin will be metabolized from urine or sebaceous glands, so urine and sweat may appear light yellow. In addition, after breastfeeding women take it, the baby will suck the milk and may cause diarrhea, so breastfeeding women are not suitable for taking it. Because this product can promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis and relieve blood stasis, women during their menstrual period or pregnant women must be careful when taking it.

4. Coptis chinensis is slightly cold and can easily damage the liver qi. People with weak spleen and stomach should use it with caution. Women should avoid using it during pregnancy, menstruation, and breastfeeding. This group of people must pay attention, otherwise some adverse reactions may occur.

5. People with weak spleen and stomach, deficiency of both qi and blood, and women should be cautious when taking rhubarb before pregnancy, after giving birth, during menstruation and during breastfeeding. Oral consumption of raw rhubarb may cause adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, which usually subside after stopping the medication.
