Emergency methods to stop diarrhea

Emergency methods to stop diarrhea

People often suffer from diarrhea when they don't pay attention to their diet. There are many reasons for diarrhea, which affects people's normal life and study. In addition to improper diet, it may also be caused by a cold stomach. Therefore, it is important to stop diarrhea in time. There are many ways to stop diarrhea, and drug treatment should be the first choice. However, severe diarrhea may cause dehydration, so it must be prevented and stopped. So what are the emergency methods to stop diarrhea?

1

Avoid dehydration. The most common consequence of diarrhea is dehydration, and the consequences of dehydration are serious. Make sure to drink plenty of water, broth and juice throughout the day. Even if you can only take small sips at a time, it is important to replace the fluids lost during diarrhea.

Drinking water is good, but also drink broth, juice, or some sports drinks. The body also needs electrolytes such as potassium and sodium.

Some people find that apple juice makes their symptoms worse.

If you're too nauseated to keep anything down, try putting some crushed ice in your mouth.

If you are unable to keep any liquids down for more than 12 hours or have diarrhea or vomiting for more than 24 hours, see a doctor immediately. If you are severely dehydrated, you may need to be rehydrated through an IV in the hospital.

If a child or infant has diarrhea, do not give them fruit juice or any carbonated drinks. If you're still breastfeeding, continue breastfeeding as normal.

2

Take over-the-counter antidiarrhea medicine. Try loperamide (brand name Imodium AD) or bismuth subsalicylate (brand name Pepto-Bismol). Use the medication as directed. You can easily buy them at the pharmacy.

Do not give these medicines to children unless you ask your doctor first.

Sometimes, these medicines can make diarrhea worse, such as when diarrhea is caused by a bacterial infection. You can still try over-the-counter antidiarrhea medications first, but if your condition worsens, see your doctor immediately for other treatments.

3

Use painkillers with caution. You can take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen to help reduce fever and relieve pain caused by stomach cramps. However, these medicines can irritate and damage your stomach if you have certain medical conditions or if you take very high doses. Take the medicine strictly according to your doctor's prescription or instructions. NSAIDs should not be used in the following situations:

Your doctor has prescribed you another medicine, or you are taking another NSAID for another condition.

Have kidney or liver disease.

Have ever had stomach ulcer or bleeding.

Under 18 years of age. You should consult your doctor first. Also ask a doctor before giving aspirin to a child or teenager. Using aspirin to treat illnesses such as influenza in children and adolescents may cause Reye's syndrome, which can be fatal.

4

Get more rest. No matter what illness you have, rest and quiet time are the best ways to help your body recover. Get enough sleep, stay warm, and let your body rest. These practices help you fight infections that may be causing your diarrhea and allow your body to recover from the stress of being sick.

5

If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention. If you have diarrhea or vomiting for more than 24 hours and cannot keep any fluids down for more than 12 hours, see a doctor to prevent dehydration. Also seek medical attention if you have severe pain in the abdomen or rectum, black or bloody stools, a fever over 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit), a stiff neck or severe headache, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes.

You may be dehydrated if you feel very thirsty, have dry mouth or skin, decreased urine output, dark urine, or feel weak, dizzy, tired, or lightheaded.

6

Take a dehydrated child to a doctor. Children and infants are more susceptible to dehydration than adults, and the consequences are more serious. Signs that a child is dehydrated include having fewer wet diapers than usual or not needing a diaper changed for more than 3 hours, not having tears when crying, a dry mouth or tongue, a fever over 39 degrees Celsius (102 degrees Fahrenheit), and being particularly irritable, fussy, sleepy, or unresponsive.

Also take your child to the doctor if he or she has diarrhea for more than 24 hours and has black or bloody stools.

7

If you experience serious changes in your health, call emergency services immediately. If you or someone else has trouble breathing, chest pain, confusion, extreme sleepiness or inability to wake up, fainting or loss of consciousness, irregular or rapid heartbeat, seizure, stiff neck or severe headache, extreme weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness, contact emergency services immediately.
