Is acupuncture harmful to the body?

Acupuncture is a medical technique that has existed in my country since ancient times. It mainly involves inserting needles into the patient's body at a certain angle to treat the patient. Acupuncture has the effect of unblocking the body's qi and blood, dredging the meridians, and harmonizing the internal organs. Therefore, many people nowadays use acupuncture as a way of leisure and health preservation. Although acupuncture has many benefits to the human body, does it cause no harm to the human body? If so, what harm does acupuncture do to the body?

Acupuncture is generally harmless to the human body, but if the acupuncture technique is not correct, it can cause great harm to the human body.

1. Puncture of internal organs

We often say that when doing acupuncture, you should choose a regular physiotherapy room, or go to the Chinese medicine department of a hospital for treatment. However, some people think that their acupuncture skills are good enough, so they do acupuncture at home. However, in this case, it is easy for people to injure their internal organs, especially when piercing the abdomen. The needle should not be inserted too deep, otherwise it will injure the internal organs.

2. Infectious diseases

The needles used in acupuncture must be sterilized at high temperature, or disposable needles must be used. However, there are many informal acupuncture rooms nowadays that do not strictly follow the "one person, one needle" rule. When one needle is used on multiple people, there is a high possibility of cross infection. Because if non-disposable acupuncture needles are used, then after each acupuncture point is pierced, the needle should be put away and soaked, and then sterilized with high temperature and high pressure. This is the only way to prevent infectious diseases from being spread through the acupuncture needles. Disinfectant soaking alone will not solve the problem. In this situation, the risk of contracting an infectious disease is quite high.

3. Causes needle sickness

Speaking of "needle phobia", many people may not understand it, but in fact, many people in life suffer from needle phobia. People who suffer from needle phobia should not look directly at the acupuncture needles during acupuncture. If needle phobia occurs, professional doctors will also help you deal with the discomfort caused by needle phobia.
