Baby born with black mole on leg

Moles are a skin condition that we are all familiar with, and most of them are unlikely to be lesions. Some people have moles due to unreasonable diet or lack of sun protection, which causes pigmented moles. Some people asked, why does a baby have a black mole on his leg when he is born? This is also a normal phenomenon. Parents do not need to worry. They just need to pay attention to the future changes of the mole to see if there are any phenomena such as rapid growth.

1. What is the reason for a baby to have a black mole on his leg when he is born?

A mole is medically called a pigmented nevus, commonly known as a freckle, which is a benign tumor of the melanocyte system. More than 90% of people have moles on their bodies, the only difference is the size and number. Whether it is congenital or acquired, the appearance of a pigmented nevus is often round, symmetrical, with clear boundaries, a smooth surface and uniform color. Due to the different pigment content in the cells of pigmented nevi, the surface can be different colors, such as brown, brown, blue-black or black. A few can also be skin color, light red or dark red.

Most pigmented nevi are flat or slightly raised; they may also be nodular or papillary.

Pigmented nevi can occur in different age groups, increase with age, and often increase significantly during the developmental period. During pregnancy, due to the active nevus cells, the number of nevi tends to increase greatly, which may appear as papules, macules, patches or nodules. The color of benign pigmented moles will darken when children enter puberty and women are pregnant.

2. What to do if you have a black mole

Most moles are benign and generally do not require treatment. Pigmented moles on the head and face that grow too large, affect appearance, vision, or are suspected of being malignant should be treated; pigmented moles on the head, back, palms, soles, genitals and other parts that have been damaged by friction have a high chance of becoming malignant and should be removed thoroughly at an early stage to prevent the metastasis of the malignancy.

Medical statistics show that moles on the extremities need to be more vigilant about the possibility of malignant transformation. Moles on fingers or under nails need special attention, and patients should usually be advised to undergo preventive excision. Since pigmented nevus is a benign proliferation of nevus cells and is not caused by infection, there is no problem of transmission, and there is no such thing as a mother nevus causing other small nevi.

The treatment methods for moles generally include freezing, laser, and microwave therapy. Some people think that moles are detrimental to their appearance and are unsightly, so they often pick, pinch, scratch or use needles to treat them. This not only fails to remove the moles, but also stimulates the moles to become malignant.
