What's the matter with the sudden stabbing pain in the calf?

If you suddenly experience tingling pain in your calves, you should pay attention to it. There are many causes. It may be related to peripheral neuritis or lumbar disc herniation. When the lumbar disc herniates, it often causes nerve compression and radiating pain in the morning. Let us now understand the main factors that cause lumbar spondylosis and the hazards of lumbar spondylosis.

Factors that cause lumbar spondylosis

1. Accidents often occur in clinical practice. It is found that the cause of lumbar disc herniation in many patients is actually car accidents, injuries during sports or falls. 2. Sitting for a long time can also cause lumbar disease. Many people experience premature degenerative changes in the lumbar spine due to lack of exercise and poor diet. If they continue to sit for long periods of time, they are likely to develop certain lumbar diseases, resulting in symptoms such as low back and leg pain.

The dangers of lumbar disc herniation

Lumbar spondylolisthesis: It is accompanied by intermittent claudication and numbness and coldness of both lower limbs, as well as paralysis of the lower limb muscles and numbness of the thigh and outer side of the calf. Another is lumbar tuberculosis. Due to the erosion of tuberculosis bacteria, the patient suffers from low back pain and lumbar stiffness, and is unable to bend over to pick up things. The low back pain is quite severe, and there are also symptoms of tuberculosis toxin poisoning such as fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss, and loss of appetite.

Spinal stenosis: The main symptoms are long-term low back pain, leg pain, and intermittent claudication. Patients often complain of pain in the lower back and sacrum, which is more severe when standing or walking, and less severe when sitting or lying on the side with the hip flexed. Leg pain is caused by compression of the lumbar nerve roots, often affecting both sides. It is milder than disc herniation and is not often aggravated by coughing. Cauda equina intermittent claudication, but no symptoms when at rest. Only low back pain, weakness and loss of sensation occur when walking a short distance. The symptoms disappear when the patient is at rest (in a neutral position or squatting). There may be no positive findings during physical examination when the patient is at rest, and the straight leg raising test is mostly negative. However, it may be positive (about 80%) in patients with relative stenosis and intervertebral disc bulging.

Lumbar spondylolisthesis: The interruption of the bone continuity between the lumbar vertebral body and pedicle or facet articular process due to degenerative changes, trauma or congenital factors is called spondylolisthesis; the displacement of the vertebrae resulting in extended continuity, so that the superior vertebral body and pedicle, transverse process and superior articular process are displaced forward above the inferior vertebra, is called spondylolisthesis combined with lumbar spondylolisthesis. Degenerative factors account for more than 60% of lumbar spondylolisthesis. In my country, the incidence of lumbar spondylolisthesis accounts for approximately 4.7% to 5% of the total population. The age of onset is mostly between 20 and 50 years old.

Low back pain, a feeling of falling, and radiating pain in the lower limbs: It is intermittent at first, but then becomes continuous. The pain may also extend to the sacrum and buttocks. The symptoms can be relieved by rest. Combined with intervertebral disc herniation, it may cause sciatic nerve symptoms accompanied by lower limb pain. Severe slippage may cause symptoms of cauda equina compression.
