What are the ways to suppress brain excitement?

As we all know, we need to use our brain when doing many things. If the brain is in a more excited state, we can do things better. This is very common at work. However, for some people, they may also hate brain excitement, especially when sleeping at night, brain excitement may cause more serious insomnia. So what is the way to curb brain excitement?

There are two types of electrical activity in the cerebral cortex: excitation and inhibition. They both exist under normal circumstances, inhibiting and converting each other. If it is a wakeful state, the excitation of the cerebral cortex is higher than the inhibition, which manifests as excitement. If it is a sleeping state, the inhibition is higher than the excitation, which manifests as inhibition. If the two are out of balance, diseases will occur. For example, weakened inhibition or excessive excitement will manifest as an excited state, such as insomnia, mania, etc., or if abnormal discharges occur in the cerebral cortex, it will be epilepsy.

How to inhibit the excitement of the cerebral cortex

[Pharmacological effects and clinical applications of caffeine] Caffeine has a stimulating effect on the cerebral cortex. Taking a small dose (50-200 mg) can make people disappear from sleepiness, reduce fatigue, invigorate the spirit, agile thinking, and improve work efficiency. Therefore, coffee and tea have long become ingredients of stimulant beverages worldwide. In animal experiments, caffeine can induce wakefulness-type brain waves, and this effect still exists after damaging the diencephalon and midbrain, which suggests that the site of action is in the cerebral cortex. Medical Education Network collected and sorted that larger doses will directly excite the respiratory center and vasomotor center of the medulla oblongata, deepen and accelerate breathing, and increase blood pressure; this is especially obvious when the respiratory center is inhibited. At toxic doses, the spinal cord is still excited and the animals experience clonic convulsions. Caffeine can directly excite the heart and dilate blood vessels (coronary blood vessels, renal blood vessels, etc.), but this peripheral effect is often masked by the effects of stimulating the vagal center and vasomotor center, so it has no therapeutic significance. In addition, caffeine can relax bronchial smooth muscles, act as a diuretic and stimulate gastric acid secretion. Recent reports indicate that therapeutic doses of caffeine and theophylline can competitively antagonize adenosine receptors in vivo. Adenosine is also known to have sedative, anticonvulsant and bronchial smooth muscle contraction effects. This suggests that caffeine's central excitation and relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle are related to its effect of blocking adenosine receptors.

How to inhibit the excitement of the cerebral cortex

Caffeine is mainly used to counteract central nervous system inhibitory states, such as severe infectious diseases, drowsiness and respiratory and circulatory depression caused by overdose of sedatives and hypnotics. Sodium benzoate caffeine can be injected intramuscularly. In addition, caffeine is often used with ergotamine to treat migraines; and with antipyretics and analgesics to treat general headaches. At this time, it enhances the headache-relieving effect of the above drugs by constricting cerebral blood vessels and reducing the amplitude of cerebral vascular pulsation.
