Lump on the stomach

Lump on the stomach

I believe that many people have this little habit. When they are free, they like to touch their belly. However, normal people will find that their belly is soft when they touch it. This is also an important reason why everyone likes to touch their belly. However, a small number of people find lumps on their stomachs when they touch their stomachs. If you find a hard lump on your stomach, could it be caused by a cyst?

What is the cause of the hard lump in the abdomen?

1. Inflammation of the abdominal cavity

When abdominal organs or tissues become inflamed, an inflammatory mass may appear if an abscess is formed. Such as liver abscess, perirenal abscess, and periappendiceal abscess. Inflammation of the abdominal cavity can cause damage to the internal organs. Tissues adhere to each other to form a mass. The most common is tuberculous peritonitis.

2. Organ enlargement

The solid organs in the abdominal cavity often become enlarged due to inflammation or hyperplasia of organ tumor tissue. In circulatory disorders, such as chronic congestive heart failure or constrictive pericarditis, the liver may swell due to congestion. The kidneys may become blocked, narrowed or compressed, causing poor blood flow and hydronephrosis, which can lead to kidney enlargement. Portal hypertension caused by various reasons leads to obstruction of splenic vein blood flow and causes splenomegaly. It can also be caused by torsion or dislocation of organs.

3. Expansion of hollow organs

Hollow organs can often be obstructed due to inflammation, tumors, or organ torsion. After obstruction, fluid and gas accumulate in the cavity, causing organ swelling. For example, in case of pyloric obstruction, stomach distension can be seen in the upper abdomen. Intestinal obstruction, an intestinal pattern can be seen in the upper segment of the obstruction. Lower urinary tract obstruction causes urine accumulation in the bladder, leading to bladder swelling. Biliary obstruction and poor bile excretion cause gallbladder enlargement.

4. Abdominal tumor

Benign and malignant tumors of the abdominal organs often form masses in the location due to abnormal proliferation of tissues. For example, gastric cancer and pancreatic cancer often form masses in the upper abdomen. The tumor compresses adjacent organs, such as pancreatic cancer compressing the common bile duct and causing gallbladder enlargement. Good abdominal cavity

Sexual tumors are often seen in cysts. It may be congenital or secondary to inflammation. They generally grow slowly but can become quite large.

What to do if there is a hard lump in the abdomen

Abdominal masses are common clinical symptoms and signs, which can be caused by a variety of diseases. Therefore, when encountering patients with abdominal masses in clinical practice, we should actively look for the primary disease causing the mass. Only by treating the primary disease can the mass shrink or disappear. If it is determined that the mass is caused by inflammation, it is called an inflammatory mass, such as appendiceal abscess, intra-abdominal tuberculous mass, enlarged lymph nodes, etc., and active anti-infection treatment should be given. After anti-infection treatment, if the patient's pain or tenderness is reduced or disappears, and the mass shrinks or disappears, the diagnosis of an inflammatory mass can generally be established; otherwise, other reasons should be considered for the mass.

Except for inflammatory masses, generally speaking, any suspected tumor mass should undergo fine needle aspiration and cytological examination if possible. Once a tumor is confirmed, surgical treatment should be performed promptly as long as there are indications for surgical treatment. For solid intra-abdominal masses caused by various diseases, surgical treatment or surgical exploration should be performed as long as the diagnosis is basically clear, there are surgical indications or the mass has caused intestinal obstruction.
