Symptoms of osteonecrosis of the talus

Symptoms of osteonecrosis of the talus

The talus is the only bone in the human body without muscle attachments, so it is very easy to suffer from talus necrosis due to trauma. Some people had a sprained foot for more than three months, and were able to walk again after resting for a few days. Since it didn't hurt and was just a little swollen, the patients didn't pay much attention to it. Later, the pain started and an MRI showed necrosis of the talus. The patient was so scared that he dared not walk. It can be seen that understanding the symptoms of talar necrosis is of great clinical significance.

1. Symptoms of talar necrosis

Before necrosis, if it is hormonal necrosis of the femoral head, the long-term accumulation of hormones in the body will cause increased blood viscosity, increased blood lipids, fat embolism, fatty liver, resulting in blockage of bone capillaries, ischemia, reduced bone synthesis, calcium absorption disorders, osteoporosis and accumulation of microfractures, and finally leading to femoral head necrosis. The main symptoms are pain and limited movement. Due to the collapse and deformation of the talus body and damage to the articular cartilage surface, osteoarthritis occurs, causing pain during movement. The patient's ankle flexion and extension movements are limited due to pain and narrowing of the joint space. Its typical X-ray manifestation is an increase in the density of the talus body, which is more than twice the normal bone density. In the late stage, the talus body may collapse and deform, become smaller and flatter, the bone may harden, and the joint space may narrow.

2. Causes

1. Fractures of the talus neck and body are mostly caused by falling from a height, resulting in fractures of the talus body or talus neck. If the foot is forcefully inverted or everted, the talus may fracture and dislocate. After a talar neck fracture, ischemic necrosis of the talus may occur due to circulatory disorders in the talar body.

2. Fracture of the posterior process of the talus is caused by strong plantar flexion of the foot being impacted by the posterior edge of the tibia or the upper edge of the calcaneal tuberosity.

3. Treatment principles

Talus necrosis should be treated actively according to the cause, and drugs that can cause bone necrosis, such as glucocorticoids, are contraindicated. There are many treatment options for talar necrosis, and a personalized treatment plan can be developed based on the patient's cause of disease, age and health status, duration of the disease, and severity of the lesion. Except for a small number of patients who receive non-surgical and interventional treatments, most patients are treated with surgical methods.

4. Bone-strengthening diet

1. Brown sugar walnut sesame paste

(Diabetic patients can use a small amount of stevia instead of brown sugar or add no sugar) 15 grams of brown sugar, 20 grams of walnuts, 40 grams of black sesame seeds, and 100 grams of lotus root starch. First, fry the black sesame seeds and walnuts separately, then grind them into powder. Add them together with the lotus root powder into boiling water. Then add brown sugar and stir well. It can be eaten once a day. It is suitable for middle-aged and elderly people with weak bones and calcium deficiency.

2. Walnut Kidney Nourishing Porridge

30 grams each of walnut kernels and polished rice, 15 grams each of lotus seeds, yam and black beans, 10 grams of Morinda officinalis and 6 grams of Cynomorium songaricum. Wash the above ingredients, soak the black beans until soft, remove the core of the lotus seeds, crush the walnut kernels, wrap the Morinda officinalis and Cynomorium songaricum with gauze, put them into the pot together, add water and cook until the rice is rotten and the porridge is formed. Take out the Morinda officinalis and Cynomorium songaricum medicine bags, season with salty or sweet flavors, and eat in moderation. It has the effects of nourishing the kidney, strengthening the spleen and replenishing qi. Suitable for patients with weak bones due to deficiency of both spleen and kidney.
