There are many types of colonoscopy at present. Different types of colonoscopy have different examination objectives. Patients who undergo sigmoidoscopy need to prepare themselves mentally before the examination. Do not be nervous and first ensure that relevant preparations are made. Disinfection must be done in place. Similarly, the doctor will also wear sterile gloves and prepare various disinfection and supplies needed for the examination, so that we can accept the examination with confidence.

Preparation before the examination

1. Inspector preparation

(1) Explain the purpose of the examination and precautions to the patient before the examination. Avoid psychological stress on patients and gain their cooperation.

(2) Prepare the cold light source and turn on the power.

(3) Place the sterilized sigmoidoscope set on the examination table.

(4) Prepare sterile gloves, dry cotton balls, iodine cotton balls, gauze, and lubricating oil.

(5) If treatment is required, treatment equipment such as electrocautery and microwave therapy should be prepared.

2. Preparation of the examinee

(1) Use a suppository or water enema 1 hour before the examination to empty the intestinal cavity of feces to facilitate the examination.

(2) The patient lies on his/her knees with his/her chest bent. Severe cases can lie on their side with their legs bent.

Indications

1. Symptoms such as unexplained blood in the stool and changes in bowel habits.

2. People with long-term pus, blood or mucus in their stool, or chronic diarrhea of ​​unknown cause accompanied by anemia.

3. Diagnosis or differential diagnosis of inflammatory, ulcerative, parasitic lesions, polyps or tumors in the rectum and sigmoid colon.

4. Patients suspected of rectal lesions by barium enema or double contrast barium radiography.

5. Help verify lesions and positioning during surgery.

6. Those who need polyp ligation or electrocautery.

7. Perform a biopsy.
