Do I need a colonoscopy for long-term constipation?

Constipation is also a very annoying thing. First of all, when people are constipated, it is very painful when going to the toilet. They have to use almost all their strength to get out a little bit. The anus will feel swollen and oppressed. In severe cases, it will cause tearing and bleeding due to the force. Therefore, people who have been constipated for a long time will often feel bloated and uncomfortable in the intestines, and occasionally have diarrhea. As a patient with constipation, do you need a colonoscopy?

What can be checked by colonoscopy for constipation

Inspection process

1. You need to lie on your left side with your knees bent.

2. The doctor will slowly insert the colonoscope through the anus and observe the intestinal cavity for any lesions. You may feel abdominal distension and the urge to defecate. At this time, you should take a deep breath to relax yourself.

3. The entire inspection process takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Precautions

1. After biopsy or electroresection of polypectomy, please stay in bed and rest. Do not do strenuous exercise or barium enema examination within three days. After electrosurgical polypectomy, the doctor will generally require you to fast for three days and give you intravenous infusion depending on your condition. If there is no blood in the stool and the condition is satisfactory, you can be discharged from the hospital.

2. In the early stage, you may feel bloating and discomfort due to the accumulation of air in the large intestine, but it will gradually disappear after a few hours. If your abdominal distension is obvious, you should tell your doctor or nurse and the doctor will give you appropriate treatment.

3. If there are no special conditions, you can take normal food or eat according to the doctor's advice.

4. If you experience persistent abdominal pain or excessive bleeding in your stool, you should tell your doctor immediately to avoid accidents.
