Conjunctivitis transmission

Conjunctivitis transmission

"Pink eye" is highly contagious and spreads quickly. Its main characteristics are conjunctival congestion accompanied by mucous secretions. It is medically known as acute catarrhal conjunctivitis, also known as fulminant eye. It is an acute eye inflammation caused by bacterial infection. Pink eye is prone to occur in all seasons except winter. Infected patients experience symptoms such as eye pain and fear of light. So how is pink eye transmitted?

In fact, "pink eye" has the characteristics of a group outbreak and is mainly transmitted through mutual contact and some public places, such as schools. Swimming pools, cinemas and other places are high-incidence areas of pink eye. Pink eye generally does not affect vision, but if not treated in time, some people may turn into chronic conjunctivitis.

5 steps to prevent pink eye

Block the transmission pathway of "pink eye"

There are a large number of bacteria or viruses hidden in the eye secretions of people with "pink eye". There are a large number of germs on the towels, washbasins, face wash water and handkerchiefs used by people with "pink eye", as well as on their fingers. Therefore, all objects touched by people with "pink eye", such as pillows, quilts, clothes, door handles, telephones, remote controls, etc., are contaminated with these pathogens. If a normal person uses something that has been used or touched by a pink eye patient, or shakes hands with a pink eye patient and then rubs his or her eyes, he or she will be infected and his or her eyes will quickly turn red. Therefore, if you find that there are patients with "pink eye disease" in the small environment around you, you must quickly be vigilant, do not touch objects randomly, wash your hands frequently, and do not rub your eyes.

Disinfection in time and correct medication

After contact with patients with "pink eye", be sure to wash your hands and disinfect them, and use eye drops such as chloramphenicol as a preventive measure; apply one or two drops of eye drops before and after swimming. It is best if this type of eye drops has anti-allergic, vasoconstrictor, antipruritic and anti-swollen effects. Applying them before swimming can prevent eye infection or irritation; applying them after swimming can quickly relieve or eliminate conjunctival congestion and other discomforts caused by swimming, and it also plays a role in cleaning the conjunctiva.

Clean hands are the most important

To deal with conjunctivitis, you should first pay attention to the cleanliness of your hands. Rubbing your eyes after your hands come into contact with unclean things is the main cause of conjunctivitis. So, don't rub your eyes before cleaning your hands.

Keep your living habits

Be sure to use running water when washing your face. Your own towel and other items that come into direct contact with your eyes should be used exclusively by your family members, and each family member should have his or her own towel. If there is a patient around you, the washbasin, towels, handkerchiefs, etc. used by the patient should be kept separate from those used by others and should be boiled and disinfected frequently.

Patients self-isolate

People who have had pink eye are not immune to the disease and also need to take care to prevent reinfection. Patients suffering from "pink eye" should isolate themselves, rest at home, and try to avoid going to public places, especially bathrooms, swimming pools, etc., to avoid infecting others.

Conjunctivitis is quickly contagious, but relatively easy to prevent. The disease cycle is short and it can heal itself after a period of time. To avoid being infected by others, the key is to maintain good personal hygiene, develop good hygiene habits, pay attention to eye hygiene, minimize the time spent in public places, and try not to share items with others. Once you become ill, just isolate yourself.
