What is Fritillaria

Medicinal value

Fritillaria thunbergii is a commonly used expectorant and cough suppressant. It is the dried bulb of Fritillaria cirrhosa and Fritillaria thunbergii of the Liliaceae family. Sichuan Fritillaria is mainly produced in Sichuan, Yunnan, Gansu and other places in China; Zhejiang Fritillaria is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui and other places in China.

Chuan Fritillaria tastes bitter and sweet, and is slightly cold in nature; Zhejiang Fritillaria tastes bitter and is cold in nature. It enters the lung and heart meridians. It is mainly used to treat cough due to hot phlegm, cough caused by exogenous factors, cough due to yin deficiency, little phlegm and dry throat, yellow and thick phlegm, lung abscess, breast abscess, carbuncle, swelling and infection, scrofula, etc. Modern pharmacological experiments have proved that Fritillaria has antitussive, antihypertensive and blood sugar-raising effects.
