Abnormal liver function has many manifestations, the most common of which are abnormal digestive function and a significant decrease in appetite.

Clinical manifestations

Symptoms of abnormal liver function may include: digestive dysfunction, loss of appetite

Abnormal liver function

The symptoms include loss of appetite, aversion to oil, nausea, vomiting, etc.; liver cell damage, which leads to increased levels of enzymes such as serum transaminases and decreased levels of cholinesterase, which can cause fatigue, easy tiredness, and drowsiness; abnormal bile pigment metabolism, which can cause jaundice; glucose metabolism disorders, which can lead to changes in blood lipid levels and reduced cholesterol synthesis and esterification capabilities; fat metabolism disorders, which can form fatty liver; albumin synthesis disorders, which can lead to ascites, pleural effusion, etc. in severe cases; vitamin metabolism disorders, which can cause rough skin, night blindness, lip and tongue inflammation, edema, skin bleeding, osteoporosis, etc.; coagulation factor synthesis disorders, which can cause bleeding gums, nosebleeds, etc.; abnormal hormone metabolism, which can cause loss of libido, menstrual disorders, dilation of skin arterioles, spider nevi, liver palms, dark complexion, etc.

Physiological functions of the liver

The liver is the largest solid organ in the human body, composed of an average of 300 billion liver cells. These liver cells contain more than 2,000 kinds of biological enzymes, which serve as the medium of human biochemical reactions and participate in various life activities of the human body. It is precisely because of the role of these more than 2,000 enzymes that the liver is called "the integrated chemical factory of the human body." The liver plays a very important role in metabolism, liver juice production, detoxification, coagulation, immunity, heat production and water and electrolyte regulation.

Metabolic function

The sugar, protein, fat, vitamins, and hormones needed by the human body are all metabolized through the liver or with the participation of the liver.

Bile production and excretion

The bile produced and secreted by liver cells is transported to the gallbladder through the bile duct for concentration and discharge. The liver produces 800-1000 ml of bile every day. Bile helps digest and absorb fat in the small intestine.

Detoxification

All waste products produced during the human body's metabolism, as well as external poisons, toxins and metabolic decomposition products, must be detoxified in the liver. Liver cells excrete harmful substances out of the body through oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis and combination.

Blood coagulation function

All coagulation factors in the body are produced by the liver, and the liver plays an important role in the dynamic balance of the coagulation and anticoagulation systems. The severity of liver damage is parallel to the degree of coagulation disorder, and patients with liver failure often die from bleeding.

Abnormal liver function will manifest in many symptoms in our body. People nowadays are prone to liver diseases. When liver function is seriously abnormal, it will cause ascites, rough skin, night blindness, etc. Women's menstrual disorders are also related to this. Therefore, everyone should have good living habits and exercise more to avoid damage to various organs of the body.
