Treatment of viral keratitis

Treatment of viral keratitis

Eyes are a window for us to communicate with the outside world, and they are an important channel for us to understand the outside world. However, more and more people are not paying attention to their eyes. Long hours and high-intensity work, coupled with a lack of rest, have resulted in an increasing number of eye diseases. In addition to myopia and glaucoma, eye diseases caused by other pathogenic microorganisms are also increasing.

The most common one is the treatment of viral keratitis. There are many types of viral keratitis clinically, such as herpes simplex keratitis, vaccinia keratitis, herpes zoster keratitis, etc. In daily life, patients not only need to follow the doctor's treatment plan, but also need to pay attention.

1. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol can reduce the body's immunity and accelerate the reproduction of viruses. Therefore, patients with viral keratitis must give up alcohol and beverages containing alcohol.

Second, avoid eating mutton. The deep corneal lesions of patients with viral keratitis are manifestations of immune response, and eating mutton can aggravate this immune response, leading to worsening of the disease. Therefore, patients with viral keratitis should not eat mutton.

Third, avoid applying hot compresses to the eyes because the human cornea is in a relatively cool environment most of the day (except for sleeping) and has become accustomed to it. If you suddenly expose it to a higher temperature when it is sick, it would be like adding fuel to the fire, causing it to suffer from high temperature and lack of oxygen.

Fourth, avoid cutting corners when using medication. The number of times antiviral eye drops are applied should be guaranteed to be 6 to 8 times a day and cannot be reduced. The reason is simple. Using medicine is like using soldiers. It is like fighting a war. It takes 100,000 elite soldiers to conquer a city. If you only send 50,000 soldiers, the result can be imagined.

Fifth, avoid not pressing the lacrimal sac when instilling medicine. When taking medicine, about 70% of the eye drops instilled into the eye will flow into the lacrimal sac. If this channel is not blocked at this time, the efficacy of the medicine will be greatly reduced.

Sixth, avoid bandaging the eyes. Bandaging the eyes can increase the temperature of the conjunctival sac and increase secretions, which is conducive to the reproduction of bacteria and viruses. The gauze used may also scratch the cornea.

Seventh, avoid closing your eyes and lowering your head. This action may cause blood congestion in the patient's eyes and aggravate the condition.

Eighth taboo: Stop taking medicine when you see improvement. Only after the disease is cured can the patient stop taking the medicine as ordered by the doctor.

Nine: Avoid stopping hormones suddenly. Some patients who have used hormones for treatment, when their condition is quickly controlled, the cornea becomes transparent again, and their vision improves satisfactorily, they mistakenly believe that their disease has been cured and stop taking the medication on their own, which results in serious consequences. They don't understand that the usage of hormones is special and requires gradual reduction and discontinuation of medication.

Tenth thing to avoid: When patients are not satisfied with the effect of certain antiviral drugs, such as inhibitory antiviral drugs, they can switch to other types of antiviral drugs, such as killing antiviral drugs, under the guidance of a doctor.

The above are what patients with viral keratitis need to pay attention to during treatment. Of course, in addition to the above precautions, we also need to pay attention to rest and remember not to work too long. When working to a certain extent, we can do certain eye exercises to relax our eyes.
