What should I do if I drank water before the physical examination?

Regular physical examinations are very helpful for early detection of diseases, especially for middle-aged and elderly people. When doing physical examination, you should remember to do it on an empty stomach in the morning. But what if some people drink water before the physical examination? In fact, there is no big problem with drinking some water. It mainly depends on what part is being examined. If it is hepatitis B, drinking water will not have any impact. However, most people try not to eat or drink before the physical examination, and eat breakfast after the physical examination is completed.

Don’t be nervous if you drink water before the physical examination. You can make a decision based on the following situations:

Once you see what items are being checked, for example, five items of hepatitis B, drinking some water won’t make much difference.

Second , see how much water you drink. If it’s just a small sip, it’s not a big problem.

Third , see how long after drinking water the test is done. If you drink and then do the test, and the water is not much, most of the water will remain in the digestive tract and less will enter the blood circulation, which will not affect the test results much.

4. If you have drunk a lot of water, it is recommended not to have a check-up immediately. You can check some basic items first, and then have a check-up after the water in the body has slowly circulated and digested, or make an appointment for a physical examination.

If you drink a small amount of water before the physical examination, it will generally not affect the examination results, but there are some things to pay attention to before the physical examination:

1. Please make an appointment for the physical examination in advance; avoid drinking alcohol the day before the physical examination, limit high-fat and high-protein diet, and avoid using drugs that may affect liver and kidney function.

2. Eat a light diet 3-5 days before the examination. Do not eat bloody foods such as pig liver and pig blood. Do not eat anything (including drinking water) after midnight the night before the examination.

3. Blood drawing and B-ultrasound of liver and gallbladder must be done on an empty stomach. When doing B-ultrasound of bladder, prostate, uterus and appendages, please do not urinate. If you cannot urinate, you need to drink water until your bladder is full.

4. When undergoing X-ray examination, it is advisable to wear cotton underwear and avoid wearing clothes or bras with metal buttons; please remove necklaces, mobile phones, pens, keys and other metal objects. Pregnant or potentially pregnant female examinees should inform the health checkup service personnel in advance and be cautious when undergoing X-ray examinations.

5. Women should not undergo gynecological examinations and urine tests during their menstrual period; the bladder should be emptied before a gynecological examination; and the best time to do a far-infrared breast examination is within one week after the menstrual period. Unmarried women should not undergo gynecological examinations. Those with special needs must sign a relevant agreement (notice) before they can undergo the corresponding examinations.

6. Please measure your blood pressure, height and weight before the medical examination.

7. You may not eat until you have completed blood drawing and abdominal ultrasound examination on the day of the examination.

8. Dress requirements on the day of the physical examination: wear clothes, shoes and socks that are easy to put on and take off. It is best not to wear necklaces, etc. Women should not wear bras with underwires, and should not wear underwear with metal sequins.

9. When the physical examination includes thermal imaging, the patient must empty his or her bowels and urinate before the examination and must not eat or drink.

Try not to drink more than 200 ml of water before the physical examination, and it is best to drink it two hours before the examination so that the water will be absorbed earlier.
