Causes of low-grade fever

Every winter is a peak period for colds and fevers. Many people like to associate colds with fevers, but in fact, patients with colds do not necessarily have fevers, and fevers are not necessarily caused by colds. There are many causes of fever clinically, and fever can be divided into many types, such as low fever: 37.4-38℃; moderate fever: 38.1-39℃; high fever: 39.1-41℃; hyperpyrexia: above 41℃.

Among the levels of fever, the most difficult to distinguish is low-grade fever. Yes, because the symptoms of low-grade fever are generally not obvious, they are easily ignored by people. There are many reasons that can cause low fever, and the symptoms of low fever usually appear persistently. The harm to the human body cannot be ignored. Let us take a general look at it below.

A variety of illnesses can cause a low-grade fever. Fever is a symptom. Diseases such as rheumatism, tuberculosis, chronic inflammation, and low immunity can cause persistent low fever. Long-term psychological stress and emotional instability can also cause disorders in the body temperature center, resulting in persistent low fever of unknown cause. A problem with any system in the body can cause a persistent low-grade fever. It is difficult to find out the cause of low-grade fever through routine tests such as blood, urine, and stool. Some low-grade fevers caused by bacterial infections can only be detected through bacterial culture.

Do not abuse medicine for unexplained low-grade fever. Fever is one of the body's responses to disease. Taking antipyretics for patients with low fever is not conducive to the treatment of the disease. Indiscriminate use of antipyretics may also lead to a decrease in white blood cells and aplastic anemia. Antipyretics should only be considered when the body temperature is above 38°C.

If a low-grade fever persists, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible and undergo a comprehensive examination. Some early symptoms of malignant tumors or bacterial infections are also low-grade fever.
