What is sudden deafness?

I don’t know if you have ever encountered such a situation: your hearing suddenly decreases, and after examination, there is no problem with the cochlea and other organs. After a week, your hearing recovers automatically. This is actually a symptom of sudden deafness. Many friends are anxious when symptoms of the disease appear because they don’t know that sudden deafness has a certain self-healing ability.

Because human hearing is very important, people are generally anxious if there is a problem with hearing. Therefore, when sudden deafness occurs, many patients will blindly seek treatment. In fact, this is not conducive to the recovery of the disease. In order to identify sudden deafness, we will analyze the symptoms of sudden deafness for you here.

Sudden deafness (sudden hearing loss), also known as "idiopathic sudden deafness", abbreviated as "sudden deafness" or "sudden deafness", refers to sudden, unexplained sensorineural hearing loss. The main clinical manifestation is unilateral hearing loss, which may be accompanied by tinnitus, ear blockage, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, etc. A clinical diagnosis can be made based on clinical symptoms, physical examination, and audiological examination results, after excluding hearing loss caused by other diseases.

symptom

(1) Deafness: Most cases are unilateral deafness with no warning signs before the onset of the disease. A small number of patients may have a history of mild cold, fatigue or emotional excitement. Deafness occurs suddenly, and the patient's hearing generally drops to the lowest point within minutes or hours. In a few patients, hearing loss may reach the lowest point within 3 days.

(2) Tinnitus: It can be the initial symptom. Most patients experience tinnitus when they become deaf, but tinnitus can also occur after deafness. After treatment, the hearing of most patients can be improved, but tinnitus may persist for a long time.

(3) Dizziness: Some patients may experience varying degrees of vertigo, mostly rotational vertigo, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. It may occur at the same time as deafness, or before or after deafness occurs.

(4) Others: A small number of patients may experience a feeling of stuffiness, pressure or numbness in the ears.

The above are all symptoms of sudden deafness, and there are many factors that cause this condition. So far, there has been no detailed explanation for the cause of sudden deafness in clinical practice. It is generally believed that it may be caused by a viral infection or related to one's own immune ability, all of which may cause sudden deafness.
