Poliovirus

Viruses are terrible things that can directly harm human health. People often say that the best thing to do is to avoid getting sick. Not only does it cost money to see a doctor, but it also tortures the body. Some minor colds are okay, but in the face of some serious diseases, no matter how much money you have or how precious your identity is, you seem so insignificant. Some diseases may even leave sequelae, causing the victim to live under its shadow for the rest of his life.

Poliovirus, most people may not know what it is just by hearing these few words, but in fact, this is the professional name for polio. Maybe some people have suffered from this disease when they were young. Some may have been completely cured, while others may not be so lucky and are left with sequelae of the disease.

Poliovirus is the virus that causes polio. The disease is widespread and is an acute infectious disease. The virus often invades the central nervous system, damages the motor neurons in the anterior horns of the spinal cord, and causes flaccid paralysis of the limbs. It is more common in children, so it is also called polio.

Poliovirus belongs to the genus enterovirus in the family picornaviridae. The polio virus invades the human body mainly through the digestive tract. This type of virus has some of the same physical, chemical and biological characteristics. Under an electron microscope, it appears as relatively small spherical particles with a diameter of 20 to 30 nm and a three-dimensional symmetrical dodecahedron. The center of the virus particle is a single-stranded positive-strand RNA, with 32 capsid particles on the periphery forming an outer capsid. The nucleocapsid of this virus is exposed and has no capsule. The nucleocapsid contains four structural proteins: VP1, VP3, and VP2 and VP4, which are split from VP0. VP1 is the main exposed protein containing at least two epitopes, which can induce the production of neutralizing antibodies. VP1 has a special affinity for receptors on human cell membranes (possibly located on chromosome 19) and is related to the pathogenicity and toxicity of the virus. VP0 eventually splits into VP2 and VP4, which are internal proteins tightly bound to RNA, while VP2 and VP3 are half-exposed and antigenic.

It is impossible for a person to never get sick in his life. What we can do is to do our best to take care of our bodies and prevent them from getting sick. We must never discriminate against those who have sequelae of certain diseases, but try our best to help and care for them, and not let them lose their confidence in life and the courage to live.
