A protruding mouth, also known as a protruding mouth, is a facial defect that has a great impact on a person's appearance. It will make the face look uncoordinated and unsightly, and will also aggravate the nasolabial folds. If not corrected in time, it may even affect people's social and mental health in the long run. There are different types of mouth protrusion, and different types of mouth protrusion require different surgeries to correct them. Below we will introduce the types of protruding mouth and how to correct it. 1. What is a protruding mouth? Protruding mouth refers to the situation where the upper and lower jaws protrude at the same time. If the mouth is protruding, the area around the mouth and the nose will appear lower, the chin will appear to be retracted, and the nasolabial folds will appear more severe. 2. Types of protruding mouth If the face shape is normal but the mouth is protruding, protruding mouth surgery can improve the condition and the effect will be obvious. Because of the short chin, the mouth appears more prominent. The upper and lower teeth protrude differently, and if protrusion surgery is performed, it will only make the mouth look flat, so two-jaw surgery is needed to improve it. The face is long, and you can see the tooth sockets when you smile, or you can't close your mouth normally. There are many cases where protruding mouth is not serious, but because of the long face shape, if it is not corrected together, the face will appear even longer, so this case also requires two-jaw surgery. The jawbone under the nose is prominent as a whole, giving a strong and masculine impression. Two-jaw surgery is needed to advance the protruding mouth and jaw bone. 3. Surgical Correction 1. Orthodontics: For protruding mouths where only the teeth protrude forward, good results can be achieved with orthodontics alone. However, in Korea, the majority of patients have protruding teeth and gums together, which requires surgery. The surgical plan will be determined based on the face shape and degree of protrusion, and the use of surgery will also have the effect of shortening the treatment time. 2. Anterior segmental osteotomy: The general protruding mouth surgery is called anterior segmental osteotomy (ASO) in medical terminology. It involves extracting a tooth behind the canine, then cutting off the gum bone in that area, and moving the gum bone and teeth in that area as a whole. 3. Double jaw surgery: When you have had teeth extracted before and cannot have them removed again; when your protruding mouth is not serious and you feel a sunken feeling after receiving ordinary protruding mouth surgery; when your lower jaw is also protruding; or when your face is long and the gums are exposed more. If you have these problems, you may need double jaw surgery. 4. Three-jaw surgery: Chin osteotomy and two-jaw surgery are performed together, which requires high skills. If the mouth is severely protruding and the chin is severely short, three-jaw surgery is required. |
