What to do if you have anxiety disorder

What to do if you have anxiety disorder

If you have anxiety disorder, you should seek timely treatment. There are many treatment methods. Currently, the two most important methods are drug treatment and psychotherapy. Of course, self-treatment is also very important. First of all, as a patient, you should have self-awareness to understand yourself. If there is indeed a problem with the disease in this area, self-awareness and objective self-evaluation will help further treatment results.

1. Medication

Benzodiazepines, also known as tranquilizers, are commonly used drugs to treat anxiety disorders. If your condition requires long-term use of tranquilizers to relieve anxiety, you can switch to another tranquilizer after 3-4 weeks to effectively avoid the development of drug resistance. Note that when changing medications, the dosage of the original medication should be reduced slowly, and the dosage of the new medication should be increased slowly. After the two medications have been taken alternately for a period of time, the original medication should be withdrawn and the dosage of the new medication should be increased to the therapeutic dose. If the patient is older, the dosage is not large, and the therapeutic effect is good, there is no need to change the medication. As long as the dosage of tranquilizers does not increase, is within the normal range, and the therapeutic effect is not weakened, it can be considered that dependence has not occurred.

Antidepressants can also be taken to treat anxiety disorders. Taking antidepressants can fundamentally improve anxiety because the cause of anxiety is closely related to the imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain. Antidepressants can improve the imbalance of neurotransmitters in the brain, thereby relieving anxiety and treating anxiety fundamentally. Anxiety may worsen in the early stages of medication, which is related to the side effects of the drug and generally disappears after 2 weeks. Note that you should take a smaller dose when you start taking the medicine, and then increase the dose slowly. If anxiety is obvious, add tranquilizers in time to relieve anxiety. After the symptoms are relieved, it is recommended to take the medicine for about 1-2 years. Please consult your doctor if you want to stop taking the medicine or increase the dosage. Do not adjust the medication regimen on your own.

2. Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is also one of the necessary treatments for anxiety disorders. Psychotherapy refers to the process by which clinical physicians establish a good doctor-patient relationship with patients through verbal or non-verbal conversations, and apply relevant psychology and medical knowledge to guide and help patients overcome and correct unhealthy lifestyles, behavioral habits, emotional disorders, cognitive biases, and adaptation problems. Medication and psychotherapy are the two legs to help anxiety patients recover. Medication is a timely help and is indispensable; psychotherapy is the icing on the cake and will help patients recover further.

It can be seen that anxiety disorder is a disease that can be cured, although the process is very slow, which is determined by the characteristics of anxiety disorder. The treatment process for anxiety disorder needs to be determined based on the severity of the disease and the patient's treatment status. The condition can be improved by extending or shortening the treatment period.
