Do not use hot water with Category 6 drugs

It is common sense to take medicine with boiled water, but some people prefer to take medicine with hot water above 50-60 degrees Celsius. Little do people know that some medicines will undergo physical or chemical reactions when exposed to heat, thus affecting their efficacy.

1. Digestive aids.

Such as pepsin mixture, trypsin, multi-enzyme tablets, yeast tablets, etc., all contain enzymes that aid digestion. Enzyme is an active protein that will coagulate and denature when exposed to heat. The "Guidelines for Clinical Drug Use in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China" points out: "Pepsin is unstable when exposed to heat and becomes ineffective above 70 degrees Celsius."

2. Vitamins.

For example, the vitamin C in it is unstable and can be easily reduced and destroyed when exposed to heat, thus losing its efficacy.

3. Cough syrups.

Jizhi syrup, compound licorice mixture, honey-refined Chuanbei loquat paste, etc. are a type of medicine made by dissolving antitussive and anti-inflammatory ingredients in syrup or extract. After the patient takes it, the syrup or extract covers the inflamed pharyngeal mucosa surface to form a protective film, which makes it easier to quickly control cough and relieve symptoms. If taken with hot water, it will easily reduce the viscosity of the syrup and affect the efficacy of the protective film.

4. Live vaccines.

For example, polio sugar pills contain live attenuated polio vaccine, which should be taken with cold boiled water, otherwise the vaccine will be inactivated and cannot play a role in immunizing the body and preventing infectious diseases.

5. Contains active bacteria.

Lactase contains active lactic acid bacteria, Zhengchangsheng contains Bacillus licheniformis, Mommy Love contains fecal streptococcus and Bacillus subtilis, and Heshengyuan (children's probiotic powder) contains Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium. In addition, medicines such as yeast tablets and Livzon Enterol contain active bacteria for disease prevention and treatment. Active bacteria will be destroyed when exposed to heat.

6. Chinese patent medicines for clearing heat.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that symptoms of dryness and heat, such as fever and getting angry, should be treated with heat-clearing agents, and it is not advisable to take them with hot water. Taking it with cold boiled water can increase the effectiveness of heat-clearing medicine.
