Causes of high prolactin

Causes of high prolactin

Prolactin, also known as prolactin, is a physiological hormone for women. When women experience pregnancy and childbirth, this hormone will reach a peak of vigorous secretion. However, it should be noted that there are many factors that lead to abnormal increases in prolactin, such as mental stimulation, pituitary disorders, and medication factors. These are the main causes of excessive prolactin.

Five major factors are the main causes of its disease.

1. Nerve stimulation

Excessive stimulation of certain parts of the body, especially the skin on the chest, or severe pain caused by surrounding nerve damage can be transmitted to the hypothalamus through the body's nerves, which in turn will cause an increase in prolactin.

2. Pituitary disorders

It mainly refers to various tumors in the pituitary gland. In addition, hyperpituitarism can also cause galactorrhea and amenorrhea in women.

3. Drug factors

Some sedatives such as chlorpromazine and morphine that act on the human central nervous system can significantly reduce the content of catecholamines in the hypothalamus, which will reduce the activity of prolactin-releasing factor produced by the hypothalamus to a certain extent. Common antihypertensive drugs such as reserpine can inhibit the release of prolactin inhibitory factor under appropriate conditions, causing women's prolactin levels to be too high.

4. Primary hypothyroidism

When a person suffers from hypothyroidism, the insufficient thyroid secretion will be transmitted to the hypothalamus in time, prompting the hypothalamus to produce too much thyroid-stimulating hormone-releasing factor. While silver stimulates the pituitary gland to secrete thyroid-stimulating hormone, it will also stimulate the pituitary prolactin to a certain extent, causing the prolactin content to be too high.

5. Hypothalamic disorders

Some diseases of the hypothalamus and adjacent parts, such as encephalitis, pineal tumor, pseudotumor cerebri, and pituitary stalk transection, can cause a significant decrease in the prolactin inhibitory factor produced by the hypothalamus, causing prolactin to be produced blindly due to the loss of a certain inhibition, directly leading to excessive prolactin levels in women.

Through the detailed introduction in the above article, I believe everyone is already very clear about the question of "what causes high prolactin". Excessive prolactin is very harmful to women. Everyone must pay attention to it in life. If necessary, go to the hospital as soon as possible for active treatment.
