Treatment of cystitis

Treatment of cystitis

Cystitis is a very common inflammation of the body. This disease includes chronic cystitis and acute cystitis. There are many causes of cystitis in daily life. When treating, we should first clarify the cause of the cystitis. This will also be beneficial for future treatment and can better control the occurrence of infection. Let’s talk about the treatment of cystitis.

Everyone should know about cystitis. There are already many patients with this disease in daily life. After suffering from cystitis, symptoms of urinary tract infection will appear, such as frequent urination, urgency, and urinary incontinence. Everyone must pay attention to the treatment of cystitis.

Acute cystitis

It may occur suddenly or slowly. There is burning pain in the urethra when urinating. Frequent urination is often accompanied by urgency. In severe cases, it is similar to urinary incontinence. Frequent urination and urgency are often particularly obvious, up to 5 to 6 times per hour. The amount of urine each time is not much, even only a few drops. There may be lower abdominal pain at the end of urination. The urine is turbid and sometimes there is hematuria, which is often obvious in the terminal stage. If there is macroscopic hematuria, it is called acute hemorrhagic cystitis.

There is mild tenderness in the suprapubic bladder area. Some patients may experience mild back pain. The inflammatory lesions are limited to the bladder mucosa. There is often no fever or leukocytosis in the blood. The systemic symptoms are mild. Some patients feel tired. Acute cystitis occurs in women after marriage, which is called honeymoon cystitis. Acute cystitis has a short course. If treated promptly, the symptoms usually disappear in about 1 week.

Chronic cystitis

Frequent urination, urgency and pain during urination are long-term and recurrent, but not as severe as during the acute phase. There are small or moderate amounts of pus cells and red blood cells in the urine.

If cystitis is treated promptly, the symptoms will disappear quickly. At this time, patients should not take it lightly and should insist on acute treatment for a week. When the doctor confirms that the cystitis has been cured through examination, stop. Do not let cystitis turn into a chronic disease.

General treatment

Patients with acute cystitis need to get adequate rest, drink plenty of water to increase urine output, pay attention to nutrition, avoid eating irritating foods, and hot water sitz baths can relieve symptoms. Patients with significant bladder irritation symptoms are given antispasmodics to relieve symptoms.

Treatment of the cause

For chronic cystitis with obvious causes, the causes must be eliminated, otherwise, the cystitis will be difficult to control. Women with recurrent cystitis should undergo a gynecological examination to rule out and treat inflammation of the female reproductive tract; inflammation of the upper urinary tract and male reproductive organs such as prostatitis should also be actively treated at the same time.

Anti-infective drug treatment

Select effective antibacterial drugs based on the results of urine bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test. Before the bacterial culture results are obtained, rapid treatment is required in acute infections. Therefore, a urine smear can be taken for Gram staining. A preliminary treatment plan can be formulated based on whether it is bacilli or cocci, and treatment can be carried out first. Alternatively, broad-spectrum antibiotics or antibiotics with high urine excretion concentrations and few side effects, such as sulfonamides and furans, can be used, and the treatment plan can be adjusted after the bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test results are available.

Cystitis is already a very common disease in clinical practice. It is also an infectious disease and is very stubborn. The treatment time is generally very long and it will relapse constantly. Symptoms of urinary pain and frequent urination also occur, which are very painful for patients. Everyone must learn more about the treatment of cystitis.
