What should I do if I suddenly become deaf?

Sudden deafness occurs when one's ears become deaf and one cannot hear any sound, accompanied by some strange sounds. This is called sudden deafness, a common acute symptom in otolaryngology. In the early stages of the disease, the patient's hearing is normal and there are no precursors. So how should sudden deafness be treated?

Sudden deafness, also known as idiopathic sudden deafness or sudden deafness, is an emergency in the otolaryngology department. The patient's hearing was originally normal, but suddenly he can't hear any sound without any warning. At the beginning, he may only feel a "buzzing" sound in the ears, or a feeling of stuffiness in the ears and the sound feels distant. Some patients do not care at first until they answer the phone and have to use the other ear to hear others talking. Only then do they suddenly realize the seriousness of the situation because one ear can no longer hear. This is sudden deafness.

Seek medical treatment no later than one week. 40% of people with sudden deafness can recover on their own, while the other 60% need treatment to recover. The cure rate of early treatment is relatively high. It is recommended to seek treatment as soon as the condition is discovered, preferably no later than one week.

Experts say that this disease is often treated with a combination of therapies. After being diagnosed through instrumental examination, the patient is first required to be hospitalized immediately and forced to get enough rest in a quiet environment as soon as possible to relieve mental stress. At the same time, the patient is given medication to increase inner ear blood circulation and improve neuronutrition. Acupuncture and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are also required if necessary. With timely drug treatment, the cure rate of this disease can reach 80%. Some patients with sudden deafness who are older or who miss the best time for treatment have poor treatment results, leading to lifelong regrets.
