What is laryngitis?

Many people do not have a particularly good understanding of laryngeal paralysis. It refers to the symptoms of laryngeal paralysis on one side of the throat. It is an otolaryngology disease that often causes symptoms of swelling and pain in the throat. The throat will feel dry, there will be a foreign body sensation, and it will cause swallowing discomfort and other symptoms. When this happens, timely treatment should be sought and emphasis should be placed on maintenance in daily life.

What is laryngitis?

The name of a disease called single laryngeal paralysis. It refers to a disease in which laryngeal paralysis occurs on one side of the throat. The name of the disease "laryngorrhea" was first seen in the silk book "Fifty-two Prescriptions for Diseases". "Suwen Jue Lun" said: "When the hand Mingyang and Shaoyang meridians are in reverse, throat numbness and swelling of the throat will occur." Throat numbness refers to external evil invading the throat, or evil stagnation in the throat for a long time, or internal organs are damaged, the throat is not nourished, or virtual fire burns up, resulting in poor blood circulation in the throat. A pharyngeal disease with symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, dryness, foreign body sensation, itching, and discomfort in the pharynx as the main symptoms. This disease is what Western medicine calls acute and chronic pharyngitis.

Diagnosis

1. It can be divided into acute and chronic types. 2. The acute type (acute laryngeal paralysis) has the following characteristics: (1) It often occurs in autumn, winter and spring. (2) Cold is often the trigger. (3) The onset is relatively acute, with a burning sensation, roughness and discomfort in the throat, followed by a gradual increase in the pain in the throat, which is worse when swallowing an empty stomach. The pain may radiate to the neck and ears on both sides, and the pain in the throat is more severe when swallowing saliva than when swallowing food. (4) There may be fever, chills, headache, and general discomfort, which may be accompanied by cough, hoarseness, etc. (5) Examination shows diffuse congestion and swelling of the pharyngeal mucosa, with a darker color, especially on the lateral pharyngeal wall. The pharyngeal palatine arch mucosa is swollen and prominent, the pharyngeal secretions increase, and the posterior pharyngeal wall lymphoid follicles are congested and swollen. Tonsillar congestion and soft palate redness and swelling may also be present. There may be swelling and tenderness of the submandibular nucleus.

3. The chronic type (chronic laryngeal paralysis) has the following characteristics: (1) There is often a history of repeated attacks of acute laryngeal paralysis, or the presence of chronic systemic diseases. (2) Frequent contact with dust and irritating gases, preference for spicy food, or excessive talking. (3) They often suffer from chronic nasal and/or oral diseases, and chronic inflammation of the palatine tonsils. (4) Symptoms are non-specific. The patient often feels dry, itchy and uncomfortable throat, a foreign body sensation, difficulty swallowing, slight pain in the morning, excessive phlegm in the throat, a tendency to cough up phlegm, and nausea and vomiting when brushing teeth. (5) Examination shows that the posterior pharyngeal mucosa is congested and dark red, with small scrofula proliferation, or is accompanied by mucus or mucopurulent secretions, or the pharyngeal mucosa is dry and atrophic, with crusts attached.
