Babies under one year old should not eat honey

Honey should not be consumed randomly. Although honey is very sweet and has health-preserving effects, it cannot be consumed at any time or while doing anything. Moreover, it is a cold food in nature, and girls should not drink it during menstruation. It’s fine for us adults because our digestive systems and various organs are mature and have their own resistance, but it’s different for babies under one year old. Let’s see why.

1. Honey is easily contaminated by botulinum toxin during the brewing, transportation and storage process. Because infants have weak resistance, after ingesting botulinum toxin, it will multiply in the intestines and produce toxins. The liver's detoxification function is poor, so it is easy to cause botulism food poisoning. Babies who are poisoned by eating honey will develop spastic paralysis, weak crying, poor sucking, and difficulty breathing. Infants younger than 6 months are more susceptible to this disease. Symptoms of poisoning often occur 8 to 36 hours after eating honey or foods containing honey, and often include constipation, fatigue, and loss of appetite.

2. Do not eat on an empty stomach

Drinking honey water on an empty stomach can easily increase the acidity in the body. Over time, it will cause excessive stomach acid and lead to gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer.

3. Honey cannot be eaten with onions

When the organic acids and enzymes in honey meet the sulfur-containing amino acids in onions, harmful biochemical reactions will occur or toxic substances will be produced, which will irritate the gastrointestinal tract and cause diarrhea.

4. Patients with cirrhosis cannot drink honey

5. Do not use honey with cold medicine

If you are taking antipyretics or cold medicines containing antipyretic ingredients, you should not take honey at the same time. Many cold medicines, such as Tylenol, Quick, Ganlike, and Ganmaoqing, contain the antipyretic and analgesic acetaminophen. When it meets honey, it will form a complex, which affects the body's absorption rate and thus weakens the antipyretic effect.

Honey is rich in nutrients, but you should pay attention to the taboos of drinking honey and not ignore them. Female friends should often drink honey water for beauty, which is a healthy food.

There are many mothers or fathers who want to be good to their babies. When you see that the baby wants to eat honey, you can't help but want to satisfy her request, but you can't satisfy her in everything. It depends on the situation. You can't harm your baby because of your love for him/her, otherwise it will not be worth it, so parents should pay attention to this.
