The exact location and function of Hegu

The exact location and function of Hegu

Last time I felt a little dizzy, so I talked about this with my friend, who studied Chinese medicine. He told me that many acupuncture points on the human body can cure diseases just by massage. I told him that I often feel unwell and he suggested that massaging the Hegu point every day would be beneficial. However, I don’t know anything about the Hegu point. What effect does it have on the human body? Hope that explains it.

Hegu point is the original point of the Large Intestine Meridian of Hand Yangming, located between the first and second metacarpal bones, commonly known as the "tiger's mouth". Traditional Chinese medicine believes that cupping or massaging the Hegu and Taichong points can promote metabolism, eliminate toxins, enhance sexual function, clear the head and improve eyesight. The four major effects of massaging the Hegu point are introduced as follows:

1. Relieve pain

Massage method: Place the palm of your right hand on the back of your left hand, and use your thumb to rub the Hegu point of the Hand Yangming Large Intestine Meridian back and forth, 50 times each (place the first horizontal line of your right thumb on the center of the left hand's tiger's mouth, and the point is where the tip of your thumb reaches). The man finished massaging his left arm and then moved on to his right arm. The opposite is true for women.

Massage effects: Pressing and rubbing the Hegu point can dispel wind and relieve exterior symptoms, unblock meridians and relieve pain. It has a good analgesic effect on toothache, sore throat, headache, and abdominal pain. It can also treat colds, dizziness, drowsiness, tinnitus, deafness, neurasthenia and other symptoms. When children have convulsions, pressing the Hegu point has the effect of restoring yang, rescuing adverse conditions, dispersing convulsions and removing heat. When epilepsy occurs, pressing the Hegu point with strong force can relieve symptoms.

2. Relieve low blood pressure

Clinical studies have found that frequently massaging the Hegu point has a certain blood pressure-raising effect. If the point is massaged more frequently and for longer periods of time, the blood pressure will rise more and more steadily. Even if the massage stops, the blood pressure will drop more slowly. Therefore, patients with low blood pressure can frequently massage the Hegu point.

3. Relieve motion sickness symptoms

Before getting on the car, stick a piece of ginger on your child's belly button to relieve motion sickness symptoms. If you find that your child has symptoms of motion sickness, you can press his Hegu point (at the base of the thumb and index finger) with appropriate force, or pinch the Neiguan point with your thumb (about two finger widths above the transverse wrist line, between the two tendons), both of which can relieve motion sickness symptoms.

4. Relieve constipation and prevent dementia

Long-term constipation is the culprit that catalyzes the decline of intelligence in the elderly, and about 80% of elderly people with constipation are prone to Alzheimer's disease. Rub the Hegu point on your hand, and then rub your lower abdomen in a clockwise direction. When massaging the Hegu point, you should apply pressure in the direction of the little finger instead of pressing straight up or down vertically on the back of the hand. This will better exert the therapeutic effect of this acupoint.

The above is about the effect of massaging the Hegu point. In fact, many acupoints of the human body can relieve human diseases, but it is not enough to rely solely on this to regulate the body. It still requires a reasonable diet and appropriate exercise to adjust. A good life habit is the key. Acupoint massage can only be said to have a certain effect. Finally, I wish you good health and a happy life.
