Bright red lochia more than a month after delivery

Bright red lochia more than a month after delivery

After giving birth, both natural and caesarean sections will cause lochia to be discharged from the lower body, which mainly refers to some waste products produced inside the female reproductive system. Moreover, the duration of lochia discharge for each mother is different, which is mainly determined by the mother's physical condition. As the lochia discharge time increases, it will gradually change from bright red to dark black. So is it normal to find that the lochia you discharge is still bright red more than a month after giving birth?

The duration of lochia varies depending on the mother's physical condition. The average is about 21 days, the shortest is 2 weeks, and the longest is up to 2 months. Postpartum lochia can be divided into three stages: bloody lochia, serous lochia, and white lochia; bloody lochia: bright red, with heavy bleeding, accompanied by small blood clots, a small amount of fetal membrane and necrotic tissue, usually lasts for 3 to 4 days, and then the amount of uterine bleeding gradually decreases and turns into serous lochia. Serous lochia: It is light red in color, accompanied by a small amount of blood, but contains more necrotic tissue, such as cervical mucus and uterine exudate. It usually lasts for about 10 days, and then the serous fluid gradually decreases, the white blood cells increase, and it becomes white lochia. Lochia alba: It is white, relatively viscous, contains a large number of white blood cells, necrotic tissue, and epidermal cells, and usually lasts for 3 weeks. Therefore, normal lochia has a bloody smell but no odor, and usually lasts for 4 to 6 weeks. Due to individual differences, it can also last for 2 months. If there is no abnormality in color or smell, it may be due to the mother's physical weakness. It is recommended that the mother eat more nutritious food in the second half of the month.

What are the precautions for postpartum women? 1. Women should not have sex within 50 days after delivery; 2. The paper used by women should be soft and sterilized to avoid infection; 3. When the lochia decreases and the body gradually recovers, the women can get out of bed and move around appropriately, which is helpful for the circulation of qi and blood and the discharge of lochia; 4. Women should stay in bed and rest as much as possible and maintain a good mood, which is more conducive to postpartum recovery; 5. Women with spleen deficiency and weak qi should eat warm tonic foods such as mutton and dog meat in spring and winter. Pregnant women with liver and kidney yang deficiency can eat some yin-nourishing foods, such as soft-shelled turtle and tortoise meat; six. Pregnant women should strengthen nutrition, have a light diet, drink plenty of water, and avoid eating cold, spicy or icy foods.

If the lochia is not completely discharged during pregnancy, it may lead to local and systemic infection, and in severe cases, sepsis may occur. Therefore, the mother must get a good rest, exercise appropriately, eat more eggs, hawthorn and brown sugar water, all of which will help the discharge of lochia. If the lochia lasts for more than one month, you must see a doctor immediately.
