How to prevent gout? What should I do if I have gout?

Gout is a disease caused by purine metabolism disorder and/or uric acid excretion disorder, which leads to increased blood uric acid. In fact, the key to preventing gout is to start with yourself, actively engage in aerobic exercise, drink less alcohol, pay attention to a reasonable diet, etc. So how can we prevent it?

Why do we get gout?

The root cause of gout attacks is hyperuricemia. It is generally believed that a blood uric acid level exceeding 420mmol/L is hyperuricemia. Uric acid is a metabolic product of purine in the human body. Under normal circumstances, the production and excretion of uric acid are in a balanced state. Once uric acid metabolism is disturbed, it can lead to hyperuricemia. When the blood uric acid concentration is too high, uric acid will precipitate crystals in the form of sodium salt and deposit in local tissues, causing an acute inflammatory reaction in the tissues, namely an acute attack of gout.

Pay attention to diet to prevent gout

To prevent gout, you need to pay attention to your daily diet.

1. Avoid eating high-purine foods: animal offal (liver, intestines, kidney, brain), seafood (abalone, crab, lobster, cod), meat (pork, beef, lamb, chicken), potatoes, peas, spinach, asparagus, mushrooms, and thick soup.

2. Quit drinking: Do not drink alcohol, especially beer and rice wine.

Do aerobic exercise regularly

The key to preventing gout is to keep blood uric acid at normal levels. In addition to controlling diet and quitting drinking, regular aerobic exercise is also a good way to prevent gout. Studies have shown that aerobic exercise is almost as effective as medication in lowering blood uric acid concentrations.

There are many aerobic exercises suitable for gout patients, such as brisk walking, Tai Chi, square dancing, aerobics, etc. Gout patients should choose exercise methods based on their physical conditions and personal preferences.
