What causes vaginal itching?

Vaginal itching may be a manifestation of vaginitis, but some women find it very strange that there is no change in the leucorrhea, but the private parts are itchy. So what are the general causes of vaginal itching?

1. Bacterial infection. The most common causes of vulvar itching are candidal vaginitis and Trichomonas vaginitis. The typical symptom of candidal vaginitis is vulvar itching, which varies in severity and can occur suddenly and stop suddenly. Patients may also experience increased vaginal discharge, thick vaginal discharge that is dregs-like or curd-like. Most cases of trichomoniasis are asymptomatic, but some women may experience varying degrees of private itching, often accompanied by foamy secretions, and increased vaginal discharge that turns yellow-green.

2. Viral infection. Sexually active women who have foul-smelling vaginal discharge, a foreign body sensation in the private parts, pain, itching or pain during intercourse, and pink papules are likely to have genital warts. Genital herpes may also cause local itching, and bright blisters the size of rice grains may appear on the urethral opening and vaginal wall.

3. Vulvar diseases. Women with vulvitis will experience itching, pain, burning sensation, and even swelling, rashes, erosions, and ulcers on the vulvar skin. Women with vulvitis will experience itching, pain, and burning sensation on the vulvar skin, and may even experience swelling, rashes, erosions, and ulcers. Women with vulvar malnutrition (leukoplakia of the vulva) will have extreme itching of the vulva as the main symptom, which is unbearable for most patients, accompanied by pale vulvar skin. Patients with the hyperplastic type will experience aggravated itching at night, and may experience burning and other discomforts. The vast majority of patients with vulvar cancer will experience long-term itching, pain, burning sensation, and chronic ulcers in the vulva at the same time or before the onset of the disease, and bloody secretions, which are more severe at night. Those who do not respond to treatments such as leukoplakia of the vulva and condyloma acuminatum are best screened for cancer.

4. Drug allergy or chemical crystal stimulation. Some women are prone to contact dermatitis and itching when soap, condoms, mercurochrome, etc. come into direct contact with their private parts. Some women with allergic constitutions take sulfonamides or other drugs, which can cause "fixed drug eruption". In addition to local itching, they may also have complications such as vulvar erosion and exudation.

5. Bad hygiene habits lead to unclean private skin. Some women use toilet paper improperly, causing the skin of the vulva to be soaked by menstrual blood, vaginal secretions, urine, feces and sweat, or they usually wear non-breathable chemical fiber underwear, which causes moisture and heat accumulation, leading to chronic inflammation of the local skin and causing vulvar itching.

6. Vulvar skin lesions. If the skin damage of tinea cruris expands to the vulva, it will cause severe local itching; vulvar eczema is manifested as papules, blisters and erosions with unclear local skin boundaries, manifested as severe itching, and the onset is often related to allergies; the local itching caused by neurodermatitis is also very severe. In addition to causing local itching, it is often accompanied by vulvar malnutrition and skin atrophy.

7. Allergy to sexual intercourse. Women with allergic constitutions, especially those who are allergic to semen, condoms, etc., are prone to local itching after sexual intercourse.
