What are the traditional Chinese medicines for regulating the heart?

The heart is the most important organ in our human body, because the beating of the heart can maintain the normal functioning of our body. Otherwise, the human body is likely to die due to heart cessation. In life, the heart is very susceptible to some diseases, not just common heart disease, but also myocardial ischemia and so on. So, what Chinese medicines can we take to regulate the heart?

Drugs that can protect the heart must have two characteristics: one is to help the heart muscles work, and the other is to reduce the resistance of the heart vessels, that is, to reduce the formation of blood clots. Traditional Chinese medicine that can protect the heart is either ginseng which can replenish qi, or salvia miltiorrhiza and Panax notoginseng which can promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.

The heart works the hardest, working 24 hours a day without stopping. Once the heart muscles are weak, the first thing that can't be guaranteed is blood pressure. Therefore, people with weak myocardium are always dizzy and weak, because the heart is unable to supply blood to the brain and the blood pressure is low. This insufficient blood supply will also affect the heart's blood vessels themselves, causing symptoms of angina pectoris. The only difference is that this angina pectoris is not caused by a blood clot blocking the blood vessels, but because the heart is unable to supply blood. All of these people are what Chinese medicine calls people with qi deficiency. The heart-protecting medicine for this type of people must be ginseng, astragalus, etc. If you are afraid that ginseng will cause indigestion, you can use American ginseng instead, but you must increase the capacity of the myocardium to achieve the purpose of protecting the heart.

Another type of people who need heart protection have blood clots in their blood vessels, or because of high blood lipids, or because of high blood viscosity. In traditional Chinese medicine, these are all considered blood stasis, and all need to be solved with blood-activating and blood-stasis-removing drugs. Otherwise, even if the heart muscle is not lacking in strength, it will be difficult to pass the already stuck blood clots, and blood supply to organs including the heart cannot be guaranteed. For these people, Salvia miltiorrhiza is their heart-protecting medicine.

According to Chinese medicine, "Salvia miltiorrhiza alone has the same effect as Four Substances Decoction", which means that Salvia miltiorrhiza has the ability to nourish blood and promote blood circulation as "Four Substances Decoction". Therefore, Salvia miltiorrhiza is also a medicine that many Chinese medicine practitioners use for maintenance, either as a single ingredient or in the form of Salvia miltiorrhiza tablets. They take them for a long time to protect their hearts and prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases caused by blood clots.
