What are the functions and effects of Houttuynia cordata?

Many people may not know much about the effects and functions of Houttuynia cordata. In fact, Houttuynia cordata has many functions. It can effectively improve the body's immunity and has antibacterial effects, especially for hemolytic streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus. It can also delay orphan viruses and promote diuresis and detoxification.

1. Improve the body's immunity: Houttuynia cordata can enhance the phagocytic ability of WBC and increase serum properdin. In the treatment of tracheitis, synthetic houttuynia cordata can significantly improve the phagocytic ability of WBC of patients against Staphylococcus aureus and significantly increase serum properdin. Rabbits were given 8 mg of houttuynia cordata intramuscularly daily. After three days of continuous administration, the level of properdin in serum also increased significantly. Houttuynia cordata improves the body's immunity and is of great significance for the treatment of infectious diseases.

2. Antibacterial effect: A yellow oily substance extracted from Houttuynia cordata has an inhibitory effect on various microorganisms (especially yeasts and molds), and has a significant inhibitory effect on hemolytic streptococci, Staphylococcus aureus, influenza bacillus, catarrhalis, and pneumococcus. It also has effects on Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae, and Salmonella typhi. The artificially synthesized sodium bisulfite adduct of decanoyl acetaldehyde is called synthetic houttuynia cordata.

3. Antiviral effect: Using human embryonic kidney primary monolayer epithelial cell tissue culture, Houttuynia cordata decoction (1:10) has an inhibitory effect on the Asian influenza A Jingke 68-1 strain and can delay the growth of the orphan virus ECHO11.

4. Diuretic effect: perfusing toad kidneys or frog webs with Houttuynia cordata extract can dilate capillaries, increase blood flow and urine secretion, and thus have a diuretic effect. Its effect may be caused by organic matter, and potassium only plays an additional role in increasing diuresis. When it acts directly, it can weaken the activity of Leptospira, cause death, and lysis, and can also delay the onset of the disease in guinea pigs artificially infected with Leptospira.
