How to deal with cerebral hemorrhage coma

When a patient falls into a coma due to cerebral hemorrhage, family members must call 120 immediately for emergency medical treatment. If the patient is vomiting, be sure to turn the patient's head to one side to prevent secretions from flowing into the trachea and causing suffocation.

1. Prevent rebleeding

Continue to use dehydration diuretics, such as mannitol, to reduce intracranial pressure, relieve cerebral edema, and prevent brain herniation. At the same time, try to avoid moving the head to reduce head vibration and prevent rebleeding.

2. Prevent choking on vomit

If vomiting occurs, the patient's head should be turned to one side to prevent vomitus from flowing into the trachea and causing suffocation.

3. Observe whether the patient's pupils are equal in size

Closely observe whether the patient's pupils are of equal size and roundness, and whether the light reflex is normal. The normal pupil size is about 2~5mm. If the pupils are not of equal size, brain herniation has occurred, which is very dangerous! Craniotomy can be performed if conditions permit.

4. Strengthen buttocks care

Patients with incontinence need to retain catheterization and strengthen buttocks care, keep the bed unit flat and dry, and use an air mattress to prevent pressure sores.

5. Hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy

After the condition stabilizes and the bleeding is controlled, hospitals with the necessary conditions can provide the patient with hyperbaric oxygen chamber treatment, which will be of great help to the patient's recovery treatment.

6. If the patient has regained consciousness but has limited limb movement, he or she needs to be assisted in turning over and patting his or her back to prevent aspiration pneumonia caused by long-term bed rest. Help them move the paralyzed limbs and prevent muscle atrophy.

For patients with cerebral hemorrhage, sequelae are inevitable, and the key is care after the acute phase. Proper care can prolong life and improve the quality of life.
