What causes vitreous opacities?

What causes vitreous opacities?

When vitreous opacities occur, patients should pay attention to what factors cause them, such as retinal phlebitis, venous occlusion, diabetes, hypertension, trauma, or vitreous degeneration in the elderly, which can all manifest these symptoms.

1. Bleeding:

Bleeding caused by retinal phlebitis, venous occlusion, diabetes, hypertension, trauma or surgery enters the vitreous body, forming red, yellow, grayish white flaky or clumpy turbidity during the process of blood entry and absorption.

2. Trauma:

Uveitis and other conditions can cause pigment particles to enter the vitreous, parasites and their metabolites, intraocular tumors, or tumors from other parts of the body to metastasize to the eye, causing turbidity. Foreign bodies retained in the vitreous due to ocular trauma, and proliferation of fibrous tissue in the vitreous due to ocular trauma, bleeding, diabetes, etc.

3. Vitreous degeneration:

It is more common in the elderly and those with high myopia. The vitreous hyaluronic acid depolymerizes and liquefies, and cholesterol crystals may be deposited in the vitreous of those with diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

4. Degeneration :

It is more common in the elderly and patients with high degree of myopia. The vitreous hyaluronic acid depolymerizes and liquefies. Cholesterol crystals may be deposited in the vitreous of patients with diabetes and hypercholesterolemia.

5. Systemic diseases:

Parasites and their metabolites, intraocular tumors or metastasis of tumors in other parts of the body to the eye can cause opacities. People with diabetes and hypercholesterolemia may have cholesterol crystals deposited in the vitreous and hyperplasia of fibrous tissue in the vitreous.
