What is the treatment for acute lumbar sprain?

If an acute lumbar sprain occurs, the patient should try to avoid strenuous exercise and rest. He or she can use suspension traction, waist extension traction, and knee hugging and waist rolling to help relieve pain. Care must be strengthened.

1. Acute lumbar sprain is caused by tearing of the lumbar muscles, ligaments, fascia, etc., which can cause congestion, swelling, and lumbar pain. In case of acute lumbar sprain, apply cold towels to the waist for 1-2 days to shrink the ruptured small blood vessels and stop bleeding. Then apply hot towels to warm the area to promote the absorption of hematoma. Then take the following treatment methods:

2. Suspension traction method : The patient stands on a horizontal bar or a low stool under the door frame, holds the horizontal bar with both hands, lifts both feet off the stool, relaxes and straightens the upper limbs, trunk and lower limbs, uses the body weight to suspend and pull the waist, and swings back and forth and rotates left and right. Perform traction 3-5 times a day. When you are done, step off the footstool and do not let go of the footstool immediately.

3. Lumbar extension and traction method : The patient lies on his back on the bed with both upper limbs straight and relaxed. If it is unilateral low back pain, the hip and knee joints on the painful side are flexed, and the lower limbs are straightened with the help of inertia to pull the waist. Sometimes a sound can be heard from the waist. If it is bilateral low back pain, it can be performed alternately, 5-10 minutes each time, 3-5 times a day.

4. Knee-hugging and waist rolling method : Lie on your back with your knees and hips bent. Clasp your hands together and hold them under your knees. Try to bring your head close to your knees to make the inner back of your spine kyphotic. Use your own strength to roll like a swinging chair. At the beginning, because the lumbar muscles are stiff, after rolling for 1-2 minutes, the lumbar muscle spasm will be relieved and the pain will be reduced. The rolling amplitude can be increased to 3-5 minutes. This method is suitable for the elderly and weak.

5. Press Taichong point method : The patient takes a seat and presses the Taichong point on one side (located in the depression before the junction of the 1st and 2nd metatarsal bones on the dorsum of the foot) with the thumb or middle finger for about 3-5 minutes, and then press the other side. During or after tapping, turn your waist forward and backward, left and right.
