What causes proteinuria?

Proteinuria is actually a manifestation of a disease. For example, patients with acute glomerulonephritis or chronic glomerulonephritis, as well as patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, will have proteinuria, or trace proteinuria will occur during strenuous exercise.

1. Acute glomerulonephritis: After streptococcal infection, edema, hypertension, hematuria, proteinuria and tubular urine occur.

2. Chronic glomerulonephritis : Edema starts from the lower limbs and spreads from bottom to top. The disease has a long course and is prone to relapse. In the late stage, there is often renal damage, with the hypertensive type appearing earliest.

3. Pyelonephritis: It is characterized by symptoms of systemic infection and poisoning, low back pain, bladder irritation, and laboratory tests showing pyuria and bacteriuria.

4. Systemic lupus erythematosus: an autoimmune disease, hair loss, facial butterfly rash, oral ulcers, migratory arthritis, photosensitivity, Raynaud's phenomenon, multiple organ

The most common damages are to the heart and kidneys, among which kidney damage ranks first. The proteinuria is generally high, and some patients present with nephrotic syndrome.

5. Multiple myeloma: It is more common in elderly men, who have severe anemia that is disproportionate to kidney damage. The disease progresses rapidly and can easily damage renal function, cause bone destruction, bone pain, and pathological fractures. The urine protein is overflow proteinuria.

6. Others : Trace proteinuria occurs during strenuous exercise, proteinuria occurs during fever, proteinuria occurs due to heart failure and renal congestion, and proteinuria occurs due to drug poisoning. Generally, the diagnosis is not difficult due to a clear medical history and corresponding physical examination.
