Which acupoints should be moxibustioned for frozen shoulder? The moxibustion sites are different at different times.

Moxibustion can effectively relieve the symptoms of frozen shoulder, but the moxibustion sites are different in the early stage, middle stage and remission stage of frozen shoulder, and treatment needs to be carried out according to the stage.

1. Early stage (acute stage) of periarthritis of shoulder

In the early stage of periarthritis of the shoulder, the cold aggravates the shoulder and neck, causing persistent pain, which is aggravated by pressure and radiates to the shoulder. The patient dare not lie on his side. It is especially severe at night, affecting sleep. The pain is aggravated during activities such as combing hair, washing face, and touching the back. The tenderness in the shoulder is widespread. Applying heat can relieve pain.

Therefore, the main purpose of conditioning is to warm the meridians and relieve pain, and prevent the disease from worsening. Among them, moxibustion can be used to relieve pain. Moxibustion can expel wind and cold, dredge meridians, and relieve pain. In addition, to prevent the disease from worsening, you can also apply shoulder periarthritis plaster externally to allow the shoulder joint to get enough rest.

Acupoints for moxibustion: Ashi point (pain point), Dazhui, Jianjing, Tianzong, Jianwaishu, Bingfeng, and Houxi.

2. Mid-stage periarthritis of shoulder (freezing period)

In the middle stage of periarthritis of the shoulder, the meridians and tendons are not nourished, the shoulder pain lasts for a long time, the shoulder muscles atrophy, the arm cannot be raised to the head, the back cannot be rotated backward, there is soreness and fatigue, local chills, and the pain is relieved by warmth. The pain is relieved, the shoulder joint is in a "frozen state", combing hair, washing face, touching the back, and dressing are difficult, and muscles atrophy, especially the deltoid muscle, which can last for three months. The joint capsule and surrounding structures are almost frozen, unable to move, and the pain is constant.

During the freezing period of frozen shoulder, joint dysfunction is the main problem, and pain is often caused by joint movement disorders. The focus of conditioning is to restore joint movement function. The conditioning methods used can be moxibustion, massage, cupping and other measures to achieve the purpose of relieving adhesions, expanding the range of motion of the shoulder joint, and restoring normal joint movement function.

Acupoints: In addition to the above-mentioned acupoints, add Quchi, Neiguan and Waiguan.

3. Remission period (recovery period) of frozen shoulder

The recovery period of frozen shoulder lasts about half a year to 1 to 1.5 years. The inflammation gradually improves, the pain is relieved, and the shoulder joint movement gradually recovers, but the range of motion is often not as good as before the disease.

During the recovery period of frozen shoulder, the main focus is on eliminating residual symptoms. In addition to moxibustion, shoulder exercises are also needed to enhance muscle strength, restore the shoulder girdle muscles that have undergone waste atrophy in the early stages, and restore the normal elasticity and contraction function of the deltoid muscles and other muscles, so as to achieve comprehensive recovery and prevent recurrence.

Take the acupoints during the freezing period and strengthen the shoulder exercises at the same time!
